Did nerves get to Lucian Bute against Carl Froch?

Im not saying I think Bute would have won because Carl went out there with the bit between his teeth and would have walked through walls on that night. But did nerves affect Bute? I seemed to think Bute indicated something along those lines saying he just couldnt seem to react.
When Froch fought J Taylor, there was a story where Froch and his trainer were exposed to alot of Taylor fans in a very intimidating atmosphere and this caused Froch problems before he settled down.
Frochs excellent chin seemed to carry him, but if Frochs chin wasnt very good, he might have had more problems?

So do nerves play a big part when away?

It does appear that home advantage assists these fighters. I remember reading Bute saying the crowd helped him to rise against Andrade.

So did nerves badly affect Bute or do you think the fight would have gone exactly the same had the fight been in Canada?

Nerves may have meant Bute wasn't able to settle, but in the case of this fight, Bute simply couldn't handle Carl Froch's power. If the fight was in Canada, Nottingham or a neutral venue, Froch would have stopped Bute sooner or later.

Being able to deal with nerves is an important attribute for fighters, I don't believe being nervous can be used as a legitimate excuse.

I was saying all last week that by the second round,Bute's head looked completely gone to me.
Something wasn't right, whether it was his bottle crashing or just being overwhelmed by the crowd and/or Carl, but my worry for Bute is that something happened in his head that he's never experienced before, and I fear it may be the sort of self doubt that ruins a fighter.
And I hope I'm wrong so anyone saying "What? One defeat and you're saying he's done?" has got the wrong end of the stick.

I think Carl Froch's fists is what got to Lucian Bute

No in all seriousness, i think the guy fought the wrong fight.

I think he tried to stand and trade with Froch too much instead of being a bit more elusive.

He choose to be fairly flat footed and trade

and we all know Froch has an iron jaw, legitimite KO power and a lot of heart.

So trading with this guy is a suicidal game plan (unless your Kessler)

If he changes up his game plan next time he'll do a lot better, although i still would tip Froch :good

Interesting post. Do you think the crowd got to Bute. The crowd was absolutely electric?
I wonder about how/if Bute can come back.

I think your maybe looking a bit too much into this mate, i don't think it was the crowd or his nerves.

I just think he made a mistake by trading with a man who has a concrete head and paid the price for it.

Froch isn't super man (ward and kessler proved that)

He just had a bad gameplan and played into Froch's hands

Bute's in a class of fighters along with Amir Khan and Jorge Linares. Great offense, sometimes he can take big shots and goto war and other times he just folds. We could have a night and day difference in a rematch with Froch.

I hadnt seen him fold to be fair. He got put down against Andrade but got up, though I think it should have been stopped and didnt think he folded but just was taking a beating at the end
Against Froch I think he folded a bit, he wanted to hold alot and seemed nervous. i didnt see that against Andrade. Which makes me wonder if it was nerves of being the away fighter

I think he still beats most SMW's and a few of the name LH's as well mate, but something just looked badly wrong to me last week.Larouche must have tried to prepare him for hostility from the crowd(personally I'd have worked on him by saying that he should imagine what it was like for all those opponents in the Bell Centre, and ask him if that's the only place he'll ever be able to fight) and there was a very graceful build up,so that shouldn't have been as much of a problem as it appeared.
But most people know I'm a big Froch fan who acknowledges his flaws, and I don't believe Bute is as far behind Carl ability-wise as he appeared.
Something went in Bute's head,I'm in no doubt of that.Just unsure of how much it's going to affect him in the future, but I won't be shocked if permanent damage to his psyche occured.
    But again,I hope I'm wrong.

Could be tho a fighter at this level should be able to control his nerves by then, it may have happened. Froch a fighter with an old school mentality and strong willed determination came to win despite not having the athleticism of Bute. Like someone else mentioned eventually it is only you and your opponent in the ring so the location with all the fans or not really wouldn't of have mattered. Froch just turned out to be a much better fighter than Bute anticipated. Froch basically put a welcoming mat for Bute, "Welcome to the Super 6, Lucian." I think now Bute knows he was lucky not to enter the tournament.

Im a big fan of the SMW division and enjoyed the boxing.
I wonder if Bute should have been tested away before in a hostile crowd but against a slightly easier opponent.
I think Bute could still do well if he isnt ruined by what happend. Many fighters now will be chin hunting him more than ever now I expect.
I think Bute thought he was leagues above Froch, which I did also, and think the atmosphere got to him a bit.
I think Bute/Ward is still 50/50 as Ward isnt a big hitter and in close Butes body shot could come into play
