1935 Max "Bronze Age" Baer VS 2005 Sam "Caveman" Peter

You have to love the technique in that 1st Sam Peters picture. Thats gotta be my laptop screensaver. It was either a flying headbutt or double left hook attempt. Either way he'd walk stright into a Baer barrage and get stopped. And man it woulden't be pretty. Not a bad matched fight though.

 

The bronze age superseeded the stone age for a reason.

Here's what we do know ... Peter fought much bigger guys than Baer and Max fought no one close to Peter in size, strength, power and speed .... who wins ? No idea ... by no means do I think Max Baer is a lock though ..

 

Baer was faster, had more overall skill and generalship, and definitely was in better shape. Only thing Peter had more of was sheer size and raw power, but I don't think he was fast enough to take Max. Plus Peter was hittable, got tired fast, didn't throw often, had no combos, and had little footwork. Peter had the proverbial puncher's chance, but that's about it. If he doesn't get Max early, then he's in for a whipping.

 

Baer would behead Peter.

Why would you take the Baer of the Louis fight? Why not the one from the Schmeling or Carnera fight?

Anyway, prime for prime Baer wins. Peter is bigger but that´s mostly fat, in best shape he would be around 220 pounds, perhaps underneath. Because he is carrying around that much excess weight his stamina is quite bad. All he has is power and a good chin. Baer has about as much power, perhaps more, an even better chin, much better stamina and when he takes it serious also better defense, skill and generalship. Baer either wins a clear decision against a bloodied Peter or a stops an exhausted Peter late. Just different class of a fighter.

And yeah, the average fighter Peter fought were bigger. True, but like Peter their size was mostly excess weight. Baer also has his fair share of bigger fighters like Carnera, Galento, Bearcat Wright, De Kuh, Souza, Santa, Williams. And he did very well against these.

It'd be a fair bit similiar to the Galento fight IMO with Peter quiting on his stool after running out of gas/getting his ass beat.
