If I were Martinez, and the Mayweather fight falls through, and Chavez continues to duck him, I would definitely consider fighting Quillin.
Chavez Jr would actually be a pretty good fight for both guys and the fans. I don't think he has an easy time with Junior, but it's certainly winnable* *statement valid in all states except Texas.
he's pretty unorthodox and has decent power, good speed and poise. comparing him to other top middleweights, there's no way he doesnt have a good chance in there against anyone. on another note, I think middleweight is a good enough division, represented enough internationally, and with compelling enough personalities, to start a tournament similar to the super six.
Now that's an exageration. Lara is a much more polished fighter than Quillin. There's not comparison. Quillin is wild and far easier to hit.
I agree with that. his chin needs to be tough when he steps in with the elite though, because he can be hit. you cant deny his skills, and he brings power with speed. that's always something to worry about.
He may bring power, but he lacks precision. He has a wild punching style. And like you said, he may be able to take flush shots from a shot Winky, but how will he respond to shots from Martinez?
I really don't see anything special in Quillen. He's a good contender. I don't see him being a dominant champion or anything like that. Things can change though. At this time however, I don't think very highly of him.

Even at 40 Woinky has an amazing jab..
yeah, he lacks precision but that can always be improved, and I think his punching style is more unorthdox than wild. I can see how someone can call him wild, but then you look at a guy like lateef kayode and you really see what a wild punching style looks like.
Yes, Quillin looked good. I actually expected more hype about him when I came on ESB after his fight. He someone to look out for and looked better than before. I never though much of him before. He's no future world beater now either but could get into the mix in a MW division where a lot of things are unknown and fighters are unproven. He looked very strong but we have to consider that Winky looked very weak and unexplosive - he was also never big at the weight. Winky defense made him look inaccurate but Winkys guard, even at MW, is very good. I DID see some quality shots get through and the uppercut was a totalt peach. I liked when he finished his combinations with a double left hook to the body. His punches have that thudding sound about them, which is an indicator of big power. I watched Chakhiev vs Greg Page and it was the same there. Even though Quillin's shots mostly hit Winky's arms, you could see that they had an effect. He should work on his jab AND stay off the ropes. And what happens when he rushes in with somebody that actually has the feet (Winkys's legs were terribly gone and power was never his strong suit) and power to avoid the shots, use angles and make him pay? Martinez could - Golovkin could too. The leaning back thing is very troublesome and should see him in major trouble against Martinez. That is definitely too soon. Golovkin is even MORE unproven (at least as a professional) than Quillin, but Quillin's defense will see him in trouble. Considering there are so many unknowns about both, I wouldn't want too call that fight. How good are respective mans chin, for example? Pirog could get knocked out by him but it could easily be the other way around. I'd pick Pirog. Lets not act like either of Pirog or Golovkin are so extremely proven, though. Lets wait and see. Golovkin looks to be the real deal but stranger things have happened when perceived future p4pers have stepped up. Aside from Martinez, Sturm and to an extent Macklin and Barker, nobody in the middleweight are especially proven at the moment.
