[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tyw_v1sN-58[/ame] What an exciting fight/round this was. One of my favs, if only it could have lasted a little longer!
They should have had a "two out of three falls" match, like in wrestling. I wouldn't be too shocked of Barkley won one of them, perhaps by TKO in the first round! It's shocking to see someone as tough as Barkley just fold up under powerful pressure like that. It's the Foreman-Frazier I of the middleweight division.
Yep, pretty exciting fight. But there could have been no complaints if Benn had been DQ'd for hitting Barkley while was down p.s Barkley has to be close to being the biggest MW that ever lived
Nah- unless Barkley was totally knocked out on the second knockdown (like Dirrell vs. Abraham) then Benn would have been fine. At most, he could have got a point or two taken away. If it takes 7/9 rounds for Golota to be DQ'd after repeated low-blows and combinations to the balls, then Benn shouldn't be disqualified for one flagrant foul and one understandable foul (Barkley got up before the ref got Benn off him, so Benn naturally just kept punching).
I'm British and i'm normally a fan of Benn but what he did here was terrible imo, he punched Barkley not once but twice when he shouldn't and the ref just let him get away with, and the second time was beyond disgracful, Roy Jones was DQ'd for punching once while his opponent was on the floor and Benn barley got even a warning for doing it twice.
He should have been warned, but DQ'd? No. Jones was DQ'd because the alternative would have been to allow him to win on a foul.
I'm not necessarily saying he should have been DQ'd and i'm not saying the illegal punches made significant difference to the outcome, but you have to admit the second one esapecially looked like a big punch and Benn appeared to put all his weight behind it. And Barkley was down a couple of seconds before he threw it, no excuse for it what so ever.
It was a great fight. Barkley was knocked down 3 times but he looked far from being knocked out and had there not been that 3 knockdown rule there is a good chance he could have won by knockout in round 2.
Chavez jr has to be the biggest 182lbs fight night is ridiculous for a middleweight. The guys probably bigger than some lightheavys
I agree that he shouldn't have been DQed, but Benn absolutely should have been warned, and Barkley given 5 minutes to shake off those blows. Barkley was robbed, and we were robbed of a ATG fight, even moreso than it was. Benn would have eventually prevailed, but it shouldn't have happened that way.
This fight pissed me off. It was great well it lasted but Benn fouled Barkley twice badly and blatantly. The ref didnt say anything. Barkley IMO could shake it off and come back to knockout benn but either way we were robbed of a classic war because of fouls and a three knockdown rule...however I gotta admire Barkley who didnt say **** about two crazy fouls when he could of bitched about it. It reminds me of when Gene Tunney was asked if Jack Dempsey was a dirty fighter and gene said something like...he hit me low but he didnt complain when i hit him low. I cant stand when people like Khan ***** and complain to the ref about everything...its like they cant take being roughed up a little!
Good fight,a shame that a the three knockdown rule was in effect. It probably prevented this from being an ATG classic fight.
