The right style to beat a prime Wladimir Klitschko?

Wlad does have the power to put Lewis away.

The thing is many people don't see him performing better than his brother did against fading Lewis.

Let alone prime Lewis.

 

Yes my list is head to head, though I contradict myself by thinking. Ali and Lewis are the two worst matchups for the rest of the heavyweight champs. I think it is admirable of you to be so objective , something that is by no means a given on here.

 

Few fantasy fights conjure up the kind of helpless slaughter that would take place if you opposed the muscle-bound totem pole that is Wladimir Klitsckho against a restless Jack Dempsey.

There is no better fighter to expose the big man's key weakness.

 

You need to have a chin. Whatever your style is gonna be you have to be able to take his shots.

I see 3 ways to beat him.

A) on the outside you need a significant speed advantage, quick feet and an absolutely exceptional jab. Only a couple of guys come to mind but it's feasible with the right movement you could time wlad, beat him to the jab and skip away.

B) walking wlad down seems like the most feasible option. To do this you need an absolutely incredible chin, top level stamina and fitness plus a willingness to take one to land one. Meet his jab with one of your own and close the distance before the right hand is unleashed. You need to be big enough physically to counter his clinch and you need to fire off clubbing shots with the aim being to wear him down and break his heart.

C) with an exceptional speed advantage and the right physique you could slip his jab, then leap in with hooks hoping to throw him off balance and create an opening. You need pinpoint accuracy otherwise he'll counter and you'll leap into a straight right ending your night.

His 3 losses don't tell me much at all. Twice he lost because he was overconfident, undertrained and came up against a highly motivated opponent. We have to assume a peak wlad will train hard and have no stamina issues. The other loss he walked into a counter right from the southpaw stance. How many southpaw's in hw history have the ability to land that shot? Maybe mm at a push but his chin wouldn't survive the ensuing trade off.

Tyson stood square on, and in a peeka boo stance, I prefer Dempsey's chances here.

 

Louis gets off the canvas to knock him out. Wlad isn't much of a finisher, I could see him dropping Louis but not closing the show.

Louis is the best HW I've seen at landing the right cross over the big man jab. Haye hurt Wlad with this shot but obviously didn't get the job done. But if Louis can stun you, he can finish you.

 

Dempsey would eat every punch in Wlad's arsenal coming in wide open with that horrible crouching style that worked fine on dirigibles like an old ass, part-time boxer Willard. It would be an epic slaughter that would certainly retire Jack to his crappy, self-aggrandizing greasy spoon.

 

That's a point of view, a stupid one, but a point of view none the less.

 

I actually can not believe anyone would pick dempsey over wlad.

They wouldn't even be in the same division today.

 

Today Dempsey would be at Light Heavyweight, & lose to Dawson & Old Hopkins.

 

Yeah and Wlad would never fight a blown up cruiserweight...

 

Tyson, Dempsey, Frazier. Those all come to mind.

 

Wow, if anyone doesn't pick Dempsey as having a great chance, they don't know **** about boxing.

Dempsey clearly proved he could punch as hard as any big man, except he had the speed which gave him that explosive impact punching which can send a man down or break his bones, rather than the thudding power like Vitali Klitschko has for instance.

He also retains the movement and speed of a small man.

His only fault is that he probably won't be as durable as a bigger man, but considering he was only knocked out once in what is widely considered a fixed fight....

Well you be the judge.

He had the best aggressive defense of all time at heavyweight, moved around the ring like a heavyweight Pacquaio, and was an adept counterpuncher.

He also beat the **** out of skilled durable big men.

He would have an excellent chance at beating Wlad.
