Dont get me wrong, i know the guy is nothing special and has been a let down more or less, but he has just signed with Dunkirn and is on the verge of signing with top rank, what i wanna know is why is it OK for top rank to sign other companies fighters (Bradley, donaire etc) yet whe someone signs one of there fighters they have a hissy fit and start throwing law suits out left right and centre?

Good luck to him....he got some good exposure while on Mayweather promotions.

Lets see if he can get a big win now.

Jessie Vargas lacks the strength to do big things, I reckon he's going to lose when he steps up in competition.

lol, so you mean Mayweather's promotional company, which he only uses for the benefit of his own monetary gain, is not the future of boxing?

I don;t know what you;re talking about in your question. Donaire has always been their fighter, and Bradley was free to sign with them. If Top Rank have a fighter under contract and they break it, yes they will take them to court to make sure they honor it or are properly compensated for other companies making money off their fighter, as anyone would. Golden Boy did the same in the Pacquiao situation and that signup was dodgy as hell with that suitcase situation and Oscar kidnapping Pac off the plane. They were also very upset that Marquez and Mosley legally left them to fight Pacquiao but nothing they could do about it. If a fighter leaves Top Rank legally they usually leave on good terms, atleast business-wise eg. Cotto, De La Hoya who they continued to work for many years after, Morales, Marquez who they put Pac in with two more times, etc..

I did say business-wise. Statements from both at the time weren't too disrespectful to one other, minus Oscar's comment he had just beaten "the biggest Jew out of Harvard". This was in 2000. Arum claimed their were no ill-feelings and he couldn't afford to pay the kind of money Oscar was then demanding anyway. Oscar was saying he still had feelings for Arum and was grateful for their partnership and the money they made together. Arum continued to promote Oscar's fights till 2004 until he started using his own GBP banner. It's was only then they stopped working together, after Arum accused Oscar of stealing Hopkins from under him and repeated what many Oscar haters were saying that he quit from that body shot in order to make him a business partner.

weren't TR accused of simply tampering with Bradley while he was still under contract? And that was blamed for Bradley refusing to extend his contract by signing to fight Khan so that he could leave. I don't believe in tampering laws. If someone has a better offer for me, I want to be able to see it so I can use it as leverage to get me my worth. Athletes should be allowed to look for and sign new deals 6 months before contracts expire like they do in Europe. US has some shitty laws regarding restraint of trade. Can't imagine what would happen if some college athlete refuses to enter a draft and signs with a pro team he wants to play for and all the legal ramifications. They already got the four year college requirement scrapped in the 70s for the NBA draft.

As for Donaire, don't remember much of that. If it wasn't above board, surely Top Rank would have been made to pay for it. I know Donaire at the time was frustrated at Shaw not being able to make the Vic rematch and other good fights. Just read that Shaw released him and then he signed for Top Rank, so doesn't seem there was much of an issue there. Donaire since went on to sign another contract while under TR influenced by his wife, so it's not like he some naive innocent here

Well, if a boxer signs with another promotor while he's still under contract, that is a breach, and potentially tortious interference of contract on behalf of the other promotor. .

However, if a boxer is free from contractual obligations, he can do whatever he wants. . .

If Vargas is still officially signed, he won't be signing any contract. . .

In Gamboa's case, the guy just bailed on a fight he obligated himself, and the fans to, and then went AWOL. . The guy is still under contract, apparently through 2014 with Top Rank, and who knows how long with his German promotor. . . I have a feeling we won't be seeing him in the ring for a long time, unless he comes to his senses.

His loyalities aren't right. Fighters who sign to Top Rank have no fanbase whatsoever hoping to score a fight with Manny in a couple of fights time.

Like him or not "If" this is a true story this is a big deal.
Vargas has a lot of upswing... He is young, Latino & has had a lot of exposure on big cards.

    #MoneyTeam ain't happy about this I'd bet.

But Jessie should be thankful to Floyd Mayweather, without Floyd nobody would've took notice to him.

Floyd has done the kid a great favor.
