Go and read "The Dark Shadows of boxing, Prince Naseem Hamed and those he left behind"..... Also watch the documentary about the Prince before the Barrera fight. His dedicated had well gone, Manny Stewart could not work with him and left the camp. Prince Naseem Hamed was 1 in a billion, Barrera for share influence on the sport does not compare, not even on the same level.
well a bit contencious but he might have thought that he got away with it so easy for so long that the less he trained he knew he could still stop guys and hard. so maybe he was god given in his own mind. so yeah interesting idea. i dont think it was a big fuss to him to be honest. he did say something about no god would want his children to box. but it was a sacrifice he was making or something along those lines. but i think the "i win because of the power of allah" was just him trolling before it was meme. it angered people. especially in an extremly christian country against very devout fighters like sanchez, berrera and soto. you would have to think it riled people up. nothing annoys people more than someone doing something amazing but showing little interest.
man just wathicng a bit of the little prince the big fight. theres berrera is in a public gym wacking pads and comboing a bag as hard and fast as possible.. then you switch round to **** naz with a towel over his head leanign over the ropes with a chandelier over the ring
Prince Naseem Hamed was not a talent he was a gift, everyonce in a while these individuals appear, every 100 years, every 1000 years, it could be a long time until it happens again. The fact of the matter is Prince Naseem Hamed arguable outside of Mike Tyson and Muhammad Ali at one stage was the most influential, exciting boxer on the planet.
For me the most satisfying night of boxing ever was when the little twerp was treated like a ***** by MAB.
He was not badly beaten, just simply out boxed. He was competitive even though he was unprofessional in his preparation for the fight. Barrea has more experience in being some bodies ***** inside of the ring, Paman, Junior Joes, Amir Khan.... If you want to start playing that game mate...
Need a (no homo) in there. I'll give you a few more (no homo) gifts or talents - Roberto Duran Marvin Hagler Ray Leonard Thomas Hearns Ray Robinson Alexis Arguello Joe Louis Willie Pep Carmen Basillio Carlos Monzon ...need I go any further?
What is your point..? Those fighters are great fighters, but very few gifts. I know who Carlos Monzon is but, he has not made that influence, he has not scared this planet. People on the street know about Joe Frazier & Muhammad Ali, non boxing fans remember the iconic matches and images. And it was the same with Prince Naseem Hamed, he moved and caught the attentions and influenced, whoever laid eyes upon his gift. Carlos Monzon dos not have that same affect, he is a great fighter. But he is not the gift that Prince Naseem Hamed was, he brought entertainment and exciting into most people's lives which where bleak. He was a gift... You cannot train in the gym what Prince Naseem Hamed had, you cannot teach it. Great actors have it, great leaders, great music artist........what ever it is they have? Prince Naseem Hamed had it... A gift... [ame]http://m.youtube.com/watch?v=0wSvQY6Cl44[/ame]
Ray Leonard never had it? Roy Jones didn't? Shane Mosley? Floyd (as much as it pains me to say) Mayweather. Monzon, no?, what? Duran? No, ****. Get back to picking people's pockets Scouse. :hi:
For all the things Naseem Hamed achieved in the ring, and there were many, the crime is that he never reached the heights of which he was capable. A lazy & unmotivated Naz took rounds from MAB whereas a Naz being the best he could ever be would have taken MAB's soul. If Carl Froch had Naz's talent there would be nobody to touch him. Likewise if Naz had Froch's work ethic and sheer balls. As it is... Naz, you achieved more than most and it took an ATG to beat you, but you never achieved your potential coz you could have been really special.
Regardless of what you think or say Naseem was a complete idiot to bring reigion into boxing. So much so that Michael Buffer announced his introduction against Barrera in Arabic in Las Vegas and Naseem kept going on how his God was the best that Barrera, who was Catholic, said you bring your God and i will bring mine. And we all know the result-he was completely outboxed and ultimately the fight finished his career.
Notice how I singled out Carlos Monzon? Floyd Mayweather is not a exciting fighter. His fights are mostly forgotten, he's not exciting. Even when he try's to be exciting he just misses something, weather it's the share power of Mike Tyson or the artistic combitions and movements of Roy Jones........he just is missing something. Roy Jones did have it, he was also a gift. You can be a great fighter, but just miss that wow factor, that universal influence. Just miss those iconic moments that scar people's minds, Mayweather is not blasting guys out, and none of his fights are all time great bouts like Holyfield vs Bowe, like Ali vs Frazier...... Floyd Mayweather is a great fighter, but I would not describe him as a gift. Ricky Hatton was a more exciting and influential fighter than Floyd Mayweather. Do you think 30,000 yanks would follow Mayweather around the world? No. Mayweather won't even fight outside Vegas, and he gets booed in his home town. Because he is boring mate.
Hamad's behaviour was a disgrace to boxing. I disliked the disrespect he showed for fellow pro's in the ring. His behaviour the night he won the EBU belt againt the Italian was disgraceful. He lost the fight to MAB by 4 rounds and it would have been 5 without the point deduction. It wasn't even the defeat or the margin of victory it was the fact that every time Naz jeered in Mab's face he got a fist full full of leather. Particularly satisfying was when Naz mocked MAB and stuck his chin out as if to say 'you can't hit this' only for MAB to land a punch. By the end of the fight MAB was sick of Naz's lip and totally made a ***** out of Hamad when he bounced him off the ring post. Naz was destroyed in every way possible and as we know was never the same again. The little ****er had unbelievable punching power for a small man all the same.
