That's right, they used to show the Top Rank fights. It was nearly always an Ali fights. BBC had a series as well in the mid eighties called great fights of the sixties or something like that which was big domestic showdowns of the past. Yes, that was the Top Rank I think on ITV. The clip I put up was the bbc one with British classics but I can't remember what it was called. I thought that was great fights of 60's but it mentions Magri at the end so it couldn't of been.
just found this on a site Top Rank Fights of the 70's: A short lived CBS program with the fight doctor Ferdie Pacheco and a guy named Bob Hallaran. Kind of the precusor of ESPN's Superbouts - which ended up being cropped versions of Top Rank Fights of the 70's with the dubbed commentrary from Pacheco and Hallaran.
Yeah, I'm 43 and can just about remember watching "Top Rank fights of the 70s" with my Dad in my early teens!
What happened after 1am? I can remember that bird... You know that bird, with her teddys and ****...?
I remember getting up at 5am one morning to do my paper round and finding Riddick Bowe live on ITV (as it happens it was the 'fan man' fight). What are the chances of the happening now? (Fan Man or ITV showing 2 non-uk boxers at 5am in the morning).
I'm 47, the first Arguello-Pryor fight was on my 18th birthday. I remember watching it the fight next day Saturday afternoon on ITV without knowing the result. That fight sorted my hangover out.
Actually quite possible- if the heavyweight division did fracture for example and no one else bid for the fight it would likely end up on ITV.
