SRL is one of the most complete boxers ever but against JC at 168? Not a chance.

SMW division was created out of thin air back then it meant even less than Calslappy fought for the belt. SRL only weighed 160-5 on fight night for the fights he fought for this made up belt and division. They offered for him to fight for this title to give the division legitimacy. I remember all these fights at this time and the fact that SRL was fighting for a belt and then he was fighting tommy and duran again was bigger than the shitty division.

this is a shitty dream match-up because 168 division was nothing back in the day (literally). why not do a match-up like ezzard charles V calslappy or the old mongoose? if you are gonna make a dream match-up at least make it in the same division (SMW, like said earlier, was nothing back then)

However if it was fought at 160 (where both men would be handicapped) SRL easily whips his wwwwwaaaaayyyyy overrated ass.

p4p I rate Leonard much higher than Calzaghe, but at 168 I would take Calzaghe to win.

Did leonard made the weight at the full 168 pounds? He weigh in as high as 165 pounds and the rest he weigh in at 160 pounds. Leonard wasnt even close to a prime level. His prime days was easily at 147 pounds. So this thread is a joke. Calzaghe vs Roy Jones would be a better discussion.

A joke fight against a private contract weight crippled one armed/one legged titleist in Donny LaLonde & even then leonard got dropped, the fight & more so the event was viewed as a total fraud. It was driven by Leonards ego to beat Hearns too winning 5 titles but he did't as Tommy beat Kinchin for the inaugeral WBO 168 crown a few nights earlier.

Leonard only came back & fought Hagler once he saw that marvin had slowed to a crawl & only re-matched Hearns & Duran once they'd had to agree to SRL weight stipulations or risk the MILLION $$$ penalty's that SRL insisted on.

The only time Leonard took on what could be called a live/young opponant as in Terry Norris who thrashed & humiliated Leonard & decked him twice into the bargain!!

If journeyman Kevin Howard could humiliate Leonard & get him to quite the sport then Calzaghe would dismantle him. Joe's just to big & FAST for the likes of Leonard & only a greenhorn fanboy who knows less than ****-all about the sport & even less about SRL could think otherwise:deal

Leonard wasn`t that good at 168 & Joe was the greatest ever at the weight... Calzaghe gets outboxed & made to look inferior from a technical perspective quite a lot throughout the fight but ultimately outworks Leonard for a decision victory... too big & active at this weight plus can take Ray`s punch.

WW Leonard is superior to SMW Calzaghe but thats not the question, H2H the great big man beats the greater little man.

Any Leonard fan with half a brain knows this match-up is a joke.Only a clear dislike(and most SRL fans acknowledge just about all of post-Hagler means nothing) would lead people to keep referring to his late career when he was clearly past it.
I suppose he only beat Tommy because Tommy had a cold nine months before the fight and Cholo second time because Duran had somewhere else he needed to be?:think
Stop trying to taint everything he did.

Calzaghe wins a very wide UD.

He also beats SRR at SMW.

    It's in duranimal's nature.

I mean, I'm sure I've read him say that Mayweather would've taken apart the SRL that Duran fought in Montreal being as though Floyd is just that much superior to Leonard. Or am I bullshitting to get him to say something nice? :yep
