What about Mayweather and the other welterweight greats? How many of them does Joe beat at 168?

No argument there  I don't rate Robinson as highly in hypotheticals as you guys :tong Yes I've seen him, and yes he's one of, if not the best ever. It's more the way people imply that he'd dominate anyone which annoys me. :bart

    That's the point. Welterweight greats.

If you need something to stew over, I think Calzaghe would have a fairly easy time with Joey Maxim :D

I didn't catch your sarcasm. :patsch

I also think Joe would take Willie Pep and Roberto Duran, so we are on the same page with the lightweights as well.

You don't think I'm stupid enough to take JC's potential win over a Leonard or Robinson at 168 to stupid heights of authenticity... Do you :blood

As long as I'm coming froma completely different angle from you,I'll know I'm on the right track.
    Where's the contradiction?
It''ll take more than some poofter keyboard warrior who knows **** all to make me **** off.And the only people whose opinion I value on ESB are well aware of that.
You painted yourself into a corner flower. Is **** off the best you can do?:think

And Robinson likely wouldn't come in anywhere close to 168. He'd fight at around 157-158 as is. I'm glad you rate him that highly. I think he earned the distinction of greatest Welter both in terms of greatness and H2H but he isn't steamrolling other great fighters just cause. That's perfectly sensible to me. He wasn't by any means really a great defensive fighter, though he had fairly superb reflexes and athleticism (especially for that time). It's his offensive arsenal and chin that stand out.

Yes Sir :good His defence was good, not masterful and that would allow other greats a foot hold in any prospective fights. That's the key. Robinson would come in at 158 on fight night, Calzaghe probably just above 180. It's different times. Hagler would come in just above 160 on fight night, Hopkins at 180. it's just the evoloution of Boxing.

I rate him very highly, and it's a shame we've not seen his prime, from what I hear from John Garfield, it was special.

Not really a credible match up, if anything Calz would get plenty of **** tossed his way if he was to fight an out of prime blown up WW. No need to justify Calz status at 168 by begrading an ATG like SRL. Calz would give his left foot to be loved and adored like Sugar.

Definitely makes it difficult to contemplate H2H match-ups between pre and post-same day weigh in era fighters. If I'm not mistaken they really started to look at doing away with it circa 1983.

As far as Robbi's 147 footage, a real damn shame. Especially when I came to find they had actually considered and were originally looking to televise and film his WW title fight with Kid Gavilan, one of the the best Welters of all-time in his own right and every bit on Robinson's general level. They ultimately decided against it. :patsch

I picked Ray cause this is an ******* poll that will make Slappy Joe look good despite Leonard being a blown up welterweight fighting a guy with over 20 natural pounds on him. Leonard= top 10 ATG......Slappy Joe= maybe cracks the top 100 but doubtful

    and that's all that matters.

PS: Ray is practically useless at 168 but still good enough to make it close vs Slappy Joe

I think a Mike Tyson vs Joe Calzaghe thread is in order.
