How bad was Valuev really?

Discussion in 'World Boxing Forum' started by ThereIsOnlyOne, Jun 9, 2012.

  1. Admittedly I've only seen a couple of his fights and he didn't look great. But for a champion with an ok record and some ok scalps he sure gets it hard on here. Even when people say he's good they are kidding because he's so bad.
So tell me, how bad was he really?

He has/had some good fundamentals, which combined with his size made him a challenge for everyone he faced.. He could throw a decent 1-2, he could also control the distance. His skillset was far from flashy, but it did have some decent basics, still far from impressive..
His athletetism was medicore and he was very slow, he didn't really hit that hard despite being such a huge man..
To sum it up.. He was a GIANT man with "okay" skills..

  4. I'm not saying he's good. I'm just curious as to how truly bad he was. Is he really the worst Heavyweight champ ever?

I never knew of SNV tremendous work to the body, and exceptional left hook to body. SNV body hook skills are amongst the greats!!

Due to his medical condition he had a very short prime, but he had decent fundamentals, a decent control of distance, concussive power (mainly due to his size) and A FRIKKEN SWEET BODYSHOT!!!

He started to ferment after losing to Chagaev though.

Size is a factor that you have to contend with in the heavyweight division.

His skill set wouldn't be effective in the lower weights, but size is a natural atribute just like speed or power.

He was able to use his natural attributes well enough to be an issue for his opponents
