Better top 10 wins Floyd or Roy Jones

Different strokes for different folks. I wouldn't argue to hard with most of this, except I think you're massively overrating the Hatton win for Mayweather.

 

Neither dose landing shots on the back and Castillio just plane missing Mayweather.

 

Oh c'mon, it was a close fight, but that doesn't make it a robbery. People seem to be 50/50 on who they think won that one.

Anyway, I do think the two are in the same ballpark on the ATG scale. Jones's resume is a bit deeper in addition to having the best wins. Both guys will always have unanswered questions. Mayweather beating Pacquiao would put him solidly ahead IMO.

 

Jones has some underrated wins. Jorge Fernando Castro was shut out by a green Roy Jones in his 17th pro fight. Castro went on to win the WBA MW title and was a top MW winning 29 straight fights with wins over Reggie Johnson x2 and John David Jackson.

 

Eric Harding was a very solid B level guy, and gave Roy some problems. Roy adjusted of course and made him quit later.

 

And also Thulani Malinga who arguably has TWO wins over Nigel Benn, and a win over undefeated Robin Reid before Calzaghe got to him.

Also gave Eubank a tough hard fight, and most of all Jones sparked Malinga out in 6 rounds something neither Eubank or Benn could do.

Jones Jr. with his wins over prime ATG's Hopkins and Toney is more impressive than anything Mayweather has done to this point. Marquez is a ATG as well, but doesn't really hold much weight given he's naturally two weight classes smaller than Floyd.

 

You should have put this poll in the Classic Boxing forum to weed out a lot of the fairweather fans.

If we take away BOTH fighters best wins.....i think Floyd has the clear better resume

I say this because maybe rightfuly so....but Toney and Hop boost Jones resume like crazy....thats all people keep referring to anyway....its almost like a copout....well he has two ATG's so he has to be better....but Floyd did not have a fighter to fight like Toney or B-Hop.

No, Hill's prime was in the late 80's to early 90's. He had just lost a gruelling decision to DM (the true LHW Champion) before. Virgil was over the hill when Roy fought him, only fanboys will try and paint him out to be prime at that point.

No, Floyd has consistently fought and beaten the best, Roy Jones won vacant titles and beat paper champions. He beat James Toney, then it took another 9 years for him to make another meaningful fight against handpicked paper champion John Ruiz.

Roy Jones never beat a single lineal, unified or undisputed champion in his whole career. Roy Jones arguably never beat the man in any division he campaigned at. Trying to compare him to Floyd will not end well for Roy. At age 35, Floyd is still P4P number 1 and just moved up to 154 and beat the champion there in Cotto. At age 35, Roy Jones was lieing on his back, taking a mid fight nap against Glen Johnson :hi:

 

Uh based on JMM being the Lightweight Champion when he fought FM at Welterweight :huh

 

Marquez had to put on almost twenty pounds for that fight and Mayweather couldn't even make weight.

Are you claiming that is a worthwhile win on Floyd's record?

It's like if Vitali Klitschko beat Joe Calzaghe.
