I don't really think so. It was kind of a gimmick win. Granted, VERY few guys could pull off what Jones did, but it's almost like as if Sergio Martinez were to move up to win a title from Beibut Shumenov. On a historical basis, Ruiz might have been the heavyweight most ripe for someone from a lower weight class to beat him. I DO think it's Jones's third best win, but that's mostly because there's such a massive drop from 2 to 3. Hill would have a pretty good argument for being #3. Not sure why people always try to discredit that win. It was over a prime, borderline HOF fighter who had just lost a competitive fight (with his lineal title) to the second best LHW of his era, and Jones completely blew him out of there. The fight before that one, Hill beat the consensus #1 LHW at the time after making about a dozen defenses of his title against all comers. After the fight, he won two more titles. In my view, Hill is pretty close to being as good of a win as Mayweather's best win.
So? Floyd just isn't cutting the weight Marquez does. When they were both after their first title runs they fought on the same card when Floyd was at 130 lbs and Marquez was 126 lbs. If anything MAYBE Floyd is a weight class bigger. There isn't much between them.
Well honestly and truthfully John Ruiz probably has a top 5 Heavyweight resume of the past 15 years. Besides the Klit Bros and Byrd who else's resume is better? Maybe Tua's but that's it. It was a very good win for Jones, besides Tua nobody else dominated Ruiz like Jones did. Jones was a natural Middleweight at 160 pounds.
Yeah but Floyd just isn't cutting the weight like Marquez did. Marquez was the same size against Pac on fight night as Floyd was against Ortiz. 5'7, 150 lbs. Floyd was never a big cutter, even Pac was outweighing Floyd at 130, weighing in at 145 on fight night when Floyd was weighing 134 and 136 on fight nights.
It's hard to respect a fighter that claims to be the best ever, but freely admits that he won't fight his biggest rival because he fears for his health
