If he wins a couple more matches like he did against Kennedy I could see him calling out Donaire. He just needs to take more fights to build it up but it's definitely a fight which could be built up if he keeps fighting in his current style. He has the Pacquiao straight left added to his style and he seems to have as much power with it as Pacquiao.
Donaire has a better resume and is unifying the titles at this moment. He's doing more than Rigondeux in Rigondeux's weight class. The problem is Rigondeux just isn't worth enough money yet to be a big draw. He needs to KO a couple fighters just as a build up and then he can call out Donaire.
Donaire won a vacant belt vs a guy who had lost his last fight and is now taking on the weakest beltholder. What a resume! Also, could you remind me how exactly Mathebula has done to be a big enough name to fight Donaire or be any kind of draw whatsoever? And let's not forget too Donaire was completely prepared to take on yet another undersized opponent in the form of old Mijares before HBO rejected that fight.
This is the fight I want Donaire to take. Nishioka would be a good fight too, but I think Rigondeux proposes more problems. Doubt it happens, though.
He will fight again this year, that is 3 fights this year, that is prefect for a top fighter, hbo and show time will wont him before the end of the year
When has Rigondeux moved up in weight to fight an undefeated elite boxer like Narvaez or even a skilled champion like Vazquez Jr? Rigondeux up until this Kennedy bout has been taking the easy route. There is no easy route from here on for him. He has to do what Pacquiao did and KO guys until his stock raises and then demand a Donaire fight.
Oh give me a break with this nonsense. Donaire had at least 10 pounds, probably 15+ on Narvaez and Narvaez was the one moving up in weight for that fight. Vazquez Jr was a champion until Arce beat him to a pulp and then left the division. Donaire's career resume is clearly better than Rigondeaux's but citing his last two bull**** mismatches is not the best way to make the case that he need not take that fight.
Donaire is trying to unify the titles in his next bout in July. If he manages to do that then he will either fight Nishoika or Rigondeux depending on what they do. Rigondeux can build his stock up for a Donaire fight be he has to put on performances like he did tonight in a couple more fights so that people remember him. He's not going to get Donaire unless its early 2013 but he's going to get Donaire because he has the titles and Donaire wants to unify.
Why is Donaire interested in unifying with anyone but Rigondeaux, who might I remind you also holds a title?
Because the other titlists bring more money and better respect from a resume perspective. Rigondeux if he still has the title after Donaire unifies then he can challenge Donaire. Donaire is the name and P4P fighter who is unifying while Rigondeux is just trying to land a big money fight with Donaire rather than unify against Nishioka.
Rigondeaux credit where credit is due. This guy is extremely dangerous. Donaire would have to be something special to beat this kid.
The best thing that can happen is they both win a couple more fights and then have a grand unifying fight. They have a chance to build it up into a PPV fight.
