Great.how much was it to go?

 

We paid $200 each. Tix to the card show $10, VIP cocktail gala was $60 and the Banquet of Champions $130. The induction ceremony was free.

Amazing what a weekend

 

How the **** did you get Hagler's sig? That mother****er's always a complete ***** to fans.

I went this year as well.

 

He was being SWARMED at the cocktail reception and I managed to break through the mob and get him to sign my glove...one in a hundred shot, got lucky. Then at the banquet he signed the pic.

But I'd have to disagree, he was not a ***** to anybody...for as much as he was getting mobbed, I could understand if he didnt want to sign a single thing but he was signing a lot for people. When I handed him the DVD I made of him, he gave me a gracious sign of appreciation.

 

How do Hagler and Hearns get along? I never see pictures of them together recently!

 

Thomas Hearns has a sort of god like image in boxing more than I thought he ever would after losing to Leonard and Hagler. I guess his fights with Cuevas,Benitez,Duran and Hill and all the other fights he had with Barkley,Shields,Kinchen,Olajide,Dewitt,Medal,Shuler and on and on just make him this untouchable legend. I never thought he would be so respected. I knew he would a little but not this much. He made an impact on boxing which is apparent!!!

 

Looks like you had a blast man, I'm jealous!

BTW Jesse James Leija looks like he's still in great shape. That's good, I always really liked him. He wasn't the most gifted fighter but he was very smart and is universally known as a really great guy.

 

Well lets put it this way...during Hearns' banquet speech he said if there was ONE moment in his career he wished he could do over, it was the Hagler fight. Then with Hagler sitting down next to him he went on to say "Ive become real good friends with Ray but am still waiting for Marvin to be my friend"

Seems to me that Marvin is somewhat detached and aloof towards all his former opponents. I think his "hate my opponent" mentality during his fighting days may have had a lasting effect, who knows.

 

that is too bad. The Hearns fight seems to define his career. I wondered myself about what Pernell asked you. I thought Hearns and Hagler were friends. The big question to me is who was greater. I always thought Hearns just because of how many legends he fought compared to Hagler and he fought some moving up in weight. His career spans many weights. But Hagler was dominant at 160. Very similar ranking to me, but I give Hearns just a little more because of who he fought in many division including Virgil Hill in 1991.

 

It is the time when they all came about and happen to fight. People link 4 guys together so their images are all times 4 and then put in Benitez. just a great era and the personalities and the men all had a sort of warrior mentality. Maybe the last great time of boxing.

 

I always thought Hagler knew he escaped with Hearns with a win and put his all into it mentally and physically. He never wanted the rematch. You could tell he didn't want it at all.
