C'mon this is just ridiculous.....of course though there will certainly be some delusional old timers who have to pick Monzon based purely on nostalgia...Back when I was young...Blah, blah, blah and blah!!!!! With modern nutrition and training Pavlik is light years ahead of the pre historic Monzon...why in this day and age I am not sure if Carlos could even beat Kelly's wife, presuming that he has one that is!
Come on...Monzon would probably come out the victor, but Pavlik wouldn't be the worst contender on his resume. Monzon would get extra points considering Pavlik has about 3 inches on him, something Monzon never had to deal with.
I said this in the general. when I picture Monzon and someone like Hopkins standing shoulder to shoulder, I see Monzon having quite a bit height on him, but Hopkins has about 2 inches on him which is strange to fathom
seriously??? modern training and nutrition or not Monzon is just a couple classes above Pavlik. Talk nutrition and modern training all you want. Fact of the matter is alot of todays champs are fighting on fumes by the 11th round. Monzon smoked and never had a problem going 15 rounds.
I think PhillyPhan69 was being sarcastic, if not... Any ways Monzon by late stoppage or may be UD if it was his later days when he had a harder time finishing due to his arthritis troubles & the bullet lodged in his shoulder, Monzon was just a much better fighter.
Pavlik gives him trouble and rocks him early, Monzon takes over in the mid rounds and does his thing to take a comfortable UD.
You need to go back and watch some films. I seriously feel judging from your response that you never even saw Monzon fight.
In recent years, Monzon has been transformed into a punchless wonder. He'd have ko'ed Pavlik by round 7 with a few right hands.

if boxrec is correct, this would be about the size differential in the fight. just for some perspective, because I know at least for me it's hard to visualize Monzon being shorter. just fast forward to any point in the fight.
