I don't think he's very good. For starters, he peddles the ''Vitali could beat anyone in history'' line, which is pure bollocks. For all people moan about Colin Hart, given that he's melancholy at times and comes across as a bit of a twat, he knows his boxing inside out - if an opponent is shite he'll generally say so, and fair play to him. Rather that than ''OMG, he's blown away a NEVER BEEN STOPPED inside a round, he's the next Tyson'' like so many do.
Thing with Hart though he can be a bit biased. Supports certain promoters but that's to be expected with journalists really. Not a fan of Davies myself. Especially on boxing. Doesn't really seem to go to in depth on certain fights or the overall scene of boxing. His MMA articles can be ok but again a lot of what he writes is to keep himself in line with the UFC.
The guy hasnt got a clue most people on here have a better grasp of the sport than he does. For somebody who covers boxing/mma exclusively he does a very poor job knowldege wise. As mentioned before I think he is just a journalist who thought "Oh look heres a niche" right man at the right time and ran with it. Never says anything especially insightful or knowledgeable.
I won't read most mainstream boxing journalism because it's always the same stuff. These people never come out with an interesting article, they don't break news, they don't 'expose' anything. It's just the same old stuff that you can find by clicking on any major boxing site. Davies isn't particularly knowledgeable and his articles are boring. He's probably ok for your average casual boxing fan who reads newspapers to keep up to date but for anyone who takes the sport seriously, Davies' articles only scratch the surface. Most of these writers who have the big jobs are quite average. They don't try to publish great stories or give us interesting articles. They just follow the same pattern, every single time. That's why I prefer the work of guys who aren't as credible but don't have anything to lose. People like Gabriel Montoya, for example, who is spending all of his time trying to expose the PED issue within boxing and sport as a whole. You'd never get something like that from Davies in a million years but it's what I, and I'm sure many others, want to read.
