For those who don't remember or didn't see it, Quijana was involved in a FOTY candidate against Javier Gallo back in January.

He and pinoy lefty Juanito Rubillar (who's been around the block, contended for several world titles, and held a Pacific title) will duke it out for the vacant WBO Latino super flyweight title.

 

Yeah, this is it. No FNF, no ShoBox...and there wasn't any UK boxing this afternoon.

 

Oh ****, main event already! Starting the broadcast with it!

 

Round 1

Quijano circles left and shakes out a backhanded left jab, exploiting his 4" reach advantage over the Filipino despite being the same height. Quijano is staying off Rubillar's right jab, floating in either direction with sideways bends and lateral steps. Lots of jabs by Quijano, just brushing Rubillar from outside. Not a lot landing clean. Rubillar watches him from outside, and lunges with a left...missing. Quijano jabs at the body, falling in, under a clubbing pair of blows across the back from Rubillar. Quijano keeps sliding his feet around, circling left and now right. Scooping right to the body from outside by Quijano.

Round 2

Jabs to the body by Quijano, tentative. Rubillar is looking to drop a right jab on his head, and dropping his whole upper body down as he does so. This results in a butt. Quijano complains, and the referee pouts in admonishment at Rubillar, who acknowledges the foul with a short half-bow. NICE left hand by Rubillar, caught Quijano ducking in again. Overhand right by Quijano while bent over in front of Rubillar, hitting shoulder. Straight left counter to the jaw by Rubillar. Quijano jabs up at the buzzcut of Rubillar and then loops a right in around the side, but gets picked off by the left glove of Rubillar. Nice counters by Rubillar, especially with the left. CUFFING RIGHT HOOK to the back of the head sends Quijano hurtling toward the ropes, almost down!

Round 3

Rubillar HURT by a sudden right hand early!! Quijano goes to town on him, hooking away with both hands as Rubillar raises the earmuffs and backs up. Quijano slows down, having spent his load, and Rubillar starts to come forward confidently, cobwebs cleared. Rubillar taps the body, and then slaps down with right hooks to the ear. HARD 1-2 by Rubillar, barely missing as Quijano galloped to the side, scraping past the ropes. Rubillar ducks in with a left to the body and Quijano grazes with a plunging right. Rubillar hurt again by a right, and again Quijano goes mad with wild hooks, swinging rapidly at the waist!

Round 4

Quijano flutters a few high jabs while pitched forward on his toes, and Rubillar drives him back with a straight left hand caroming off his forehead as he pulls back. Quijano works his way in low with rights and hooks as Rubillar repositions his guard and tries for counters. Rubillar down! Slip. Quijano had thrown a hook over his head as he stumbled but if it landed at all it was very lightly. Rubillar is coming forward, loading up big left hands, looks mad. Forcing exchanges. Quijano lands a hook. Left hand, right hook by Rubillar. Strong punches. Right hand from outside by Quijano. Another one, gets wedged in the crook of Rubillar's neck, and Quijano braces against him working the body. Rubillar lands a left to the body. Light right hand and jab to the hairline from outside by Quijano, falling in a bit. BIG right hook by Rubillar, flush on the side of the head. Quijano feigns a hook, thenbacks up out of the way of a1-2. BIG left hand, right hooks by Rubillar! Quijano ducks down below the waist and tries to push in close!

The Just For Men card still matches mine RBR. Pretty easy to score.

 

Round 5

Quijano is running around, throwing long lead rights as he navigates the corners and pausing to toss out a quick flurry here and there. Rubillar just follows and reaches with his right jab. Quijano counters over the jab with right hands and falls in with left hooks, ducking back out of the pocket before Rubillar can retaliate. Rubillar is looking for that big straight left counter but not finding it as Quijano ducks and arches his back on the way in and out. Uppercuts by Quijano leaning inside. Hooks by Quijano as Rubillar leans over. BIG left hand by Rubillar, caught on the glove but smacking very loudly into it. Quijano stays close, nibbling away at Rubillar with short taps to the body while shoving him back.
