Again, because they don't have to. Non of my current coaches are ripped, it doesn't detract from their knowledge of the sport.

There is a gym round here that 'teaches' boxing to the kids. No one is qualified, no one appears to know how to coach anyone but by association they are massively busy. 40 kids each paying £3 so thats £120. He pays two helpers £20 each and runs the class twice a week. In the three and a half years the class has being running they haven't produced one boxer who has won a fight. Indeed everytime there kids have being to other gyms they've being exposed skillwise.

Thats terrible. When I start my new gym i'm going to have a beginners and advanced class with a max of 10 in each. I'm not greedy. As long as I make enough to make ends meet I don't need to be making £80 an hour. What a joke.

    Top man.

I think all of our coaches do it for free and all the money we pay (£2 a session) and all the money we make from running our shows, goes straight back into the club (owned by Tony Jeffries' dad). He's taking us all to Malta next month free of charge. :happy

He's also taken us sparring at gyms with top quality boxers, great bloke.

Most entertaining place I went to for a few months to keep ticking over was run by this guy who had never boxed, amateur or pro. I don't think that that is necissarily compulsory, as there have been great coaches with no boxing experience, but in this guys case, he had no clue what he was doing, which makes me worry about ABAE licensing requirements.

Anway, he was trying to be all slick and fancy, teaching raw novices how to switch stance etc. At one stage, there were no heavyweights for me to move around with so he offers to get in with me (he's about my weight and is still in his thirties). We get in the ring, and he starts moving around in this comical 'shoulder role' stance with one hand on his shoulder and one guarding his bollocks.. Now I am hardly amazing, though I have boxed for a long time, and it didn't take much to pivot out the way and wack in a body punch to the side of him that was completly open. The man goes down like a ton of bricks. When he gets up, he goes into a psychotic rant in front of his students going "I should have seen that,... DAMN!! I am not on form today!!! GODDAMIT!!! Why am I not sharp.." etc.

I worry for his kids in the ring, as they are being taught in a very flawed way and their defence really really sucks!

Listen I could spend all day slagging off trainers telling you true stories which illustrates them greedy, jealous morons and arseholes but its pointless. They'll still be jealous and greedy tomorrow and they'll still be some idiot stupid enough to pay them. Thats life- i'll just keep doing what I do and i'll get to where I want to be.

30 year old and i've already trained loads of kids and beginners from scratch for an approximate 75% winning ratio. Plus i've cornered for sparring Vs Carl Froch and Robert McCracken- worked the corner in two Commonwealth title fights etec etc, :good

I've noticed that amateur coaches put far too much emphasis on endurance fitness and no where near enough on technical ability

Too much bag work and not enough pad work, too much skipping, not enough sparring, endless sit ups which are unfunctional (why the **** do you need endurance in your abs?), all this conditioning work can be done solo anyway, it's a waste of time in the gym if too much time is spent on it

They are just thick mate- they do a two day course and think they are experts. But you'll never win. They'll continue to de-fraud people and thats the way it is. We know the score and if I can take £1 out of shitty trainers pocket and put it in a good trainers pocket i'm happy. :deal
