I'm going against the odds in this one. Ward is more rounded, but I think Dawson's height, length, jab, and physical tools will see him through to a decision. His offense is just flat-out sharper than Ward's is and I hope Dawson remains focused when Ward attempts to bully him and play spoiler on the inside. He'll need to tie Ward up or push him off and restart his outside work. I like both of these guys a lot, but I'm pulling for the Bad Man.
Ward deserves credit but IMO he sees something in Chad (mental weakness I'm guessing) and that's why he took it. Ward deserves a bit of credit for taking the fight with no tuneup but at the same time Chad deserves a medal for looking for the best no matter weight class and being willing to drop down and meet him in his hometown. If Dawson walks into Wards backyard and performs well he deserves all the credit in the world, if he wins he's the ****ing man! If Ward wins he goes to p4p #2, If Dawson wins he goes to p4p #3 IMO Both guys are without a doubt fighting the best fighters of their career, I love this fight despite hating the fact it's in Oakland (168 was chads fault so I don't mind that).
Yeah, his longest ever layoff. Put it this way: had he knocked some ***** up while partying to celebrate his Super Six Finals victory over Froch...the baby could be born by the time he meets Dawson!
Thats how I see it playing out too. Although I do see it being vey close because Dawson does seem to kick it in gear when he has to. Too late for his own good though.
Chad Dawson should never have asked or called out Ward now but waited and take a rest to fight the winner of Pascal/Cloud. He is risking again everything against a cagey, vey intelligent, a lil bit dirty and fresh, confident young man that is more skilfull than he is.
Andre Ward is the hottest name in boxing right now. There is a reason why I have him ranked #1 on my P4P list. You will see why on September 8. Ward by late stoppage.
P4P #1? By stoppage? Ward hasn't stopped or hurt anyone in a long while, and Dawson has been in there with much bigger punchers than Ward. Going out on a limb there, but I guess anything is possible
This is a 50/50 fight, but I'm rooting for Dawson. There is comparisons to Ward and Hopkins. Ward isn't Hopkins, they might fight similar, but he isn't Hopkins. Hopkins likes to get physical and fight dirty. Ward isn't dependent on being dirty, nor does he have the size to bully Dawson. If Dawson uses the left hand a lot, and throws a high-work rate, I believe Dawson wins.
50-50? :think I definitely think Dawson has a chance, and his sharpness with that left hand in the Hopkins rematch as I said earlier does worry me a bit on Ward's behalf.. I see it as more like 65-35, though. Ward has every advantage, really. @ home. @ his weight, with Dawson coming down. On a much better run, confidence sky high, still undefeated.
The problem against Hopkins was Dawson's left hand. Hopkins was moving to Dawson's left the whole fight and Dawson rarely threw it. When he did throw it landed. He still won just because Dawson is that good. Dawson is a right-handed southpaw, anyone can see that his best punches comes from his right. It's not to say Dawson can't be effective with his left, because in the past he used to throw the left cross with regularity. Dawson constantly switching trainers is the problem. The mistakes he shown against Hopkins will be corrected against Ward, so that's why I think the fight will be 50-50.
Ward will get on the inside and beat Dawson there. I could see Dawson giving him some problems with his reach but Ward is just a better fighter. He is also the smarter fighter IMO. Ward will beat him without question. Something like 9-3.
No need for an over/under on this one. It is going 12 rounds. I take Ward in an somewhat ugly affair.
