Every sport has at least an association for the participants and event he officials. There's a promoters association. I know the promoters probably put the kabosh on any such uniting of fighters but I wonder has anyone ever tried? Or has this always been the status quo?

Boxers such as Barry Mcguigan and Andre Ward have been vying in their own ways for a union, but barely anyone listens. This is where my problem with the media extends to, as discussed in another thread. They have the power to help boxers and fans voices be heard but are quiet on "real difference making" topics such as a union, which would help the sport out a lot.

Cool I didnt know about Ward and Mcguigan. Your right though, this is something the likes of Lampley and co should be using there voice to try and set up. It would help so many fighters and lessen the exploitation

Unions will destroy boxing like they destroyed education, automotive, and entertainment industries. You think corruption in the sport is bad now? Just wait until the union thugs take over.

Fighters will be forced to join or risk not competing.
Union dues will be forced on the fighters.
Inflated salaries will price out fighters and force HBO and Showtime to withdraw from airing fights.
Non-union fighters will not be allowed to fight union fighters.
Strikes will occur that deny fans a fight and boxers a paycheque.
Upcoming fighters will not be allowed to advance as seniority trumps all.

 I was gonna say thats a little ****ing dramatic. I was more thinking in terms of making sure fighters dont get screwed by promoters, helping fighters contest robberies, getting better medical care etc

Yes, it's funny how unions are evil, but private enterprise is supposedly wonderful in all cases.

Whenever there's talk about people banding together to protect their rights, some parties get very nervous.

    yeah i never understood that.

it was the work of unions that stopped child labor and helped workers get fair wages.

w/o 'em most ppl would still be working 80 hour weeks for pennies.

guess you gotta give republicans some credit - through demagoguery and manipulation theyve basically convinced a large portion of america to vote against their own interests and participate in their own destruction.

Because fighters' managers and promoters are smart.

    And fighters are not.

    Sorry to say...
