Biggest waste of talent in Boxing history

For me it's Zab Judah. I know he's been world champ but when he first came out I had never seen a guy with such raw talent as him.

If he would have had great work ethic he could have been as big as Mayweather jr IMO. Instead he was too busy trying to be a thug.

 

Was he really that talented, or did he just luck out against Duran?

 

right. when you look back on the mayweather fight. he was faster, more athletic and more powerful. had he had the technic and a better strength & conditioning coach to prepare his condition for full 12 rounds than he would have won. but you totaly right, young judah was a scary talent.

 

He said "talent" not bum.

Yea man, I don't think people remember how good Zab was when he was in his prime. His speed, power, reaction time all were amazing. He is just a weak minded individual, he always needed something to keep him afloat, religion, drugs, gambling....he could have been one of the great one's.

I didn't see that fight, but I saw him in some other fights on TV. Apparently, he was stoned during most of his fights (http://www.britishboxers.co.uk/2010/09/kirkland-laing-gifted-one-through-eyes.html).

 

I probably don't know enough about Moore.

However he won four consecutive Golden Gloves titles as an amateur, which is quite a rare achievement. If I remember right there was enough of a buzz around him that they televised his first pro fight. He went on to beat a couple of decent undefeated prospects before winning a world title in his 8th or 9th pro fight.

There was a lot of expectation for Moore. However to an exceptional and highly experienced fighter like Duran with over 70 fights under his belt, Moore was still a novice and took a brutal beating from which he never seemed to fully recover.

Difficult to say how far he may have gone had he never met Duran, maybe it would have made no difference. Who knows? it's a tragic story; Moore was dead before he reached 30.

I do remember that Moore and Duran fought in June on Duran's 32nd birthday. It's June now, so Happy Birthday Roberto!

2. Kirk Johnson after his Vitali loss, he would of held is own, against just about anyone else who was a contender at that time period.

 

Ike defo would have been champ, but IMO, his reign but not have lasted that long, esp not until right now. He would have had a Tyson type career, short but very destructive and then gone off the rails or got bored

Ah, you mean Laing, not Moore?

It's difficult to say how good Laing might have been. He was certainly skilled and talented, however his commitment was questionable, he couldn't leave the weed alone and he would sometimes go missing for months.

Truth is he beat a lacklustre Duran, got KO'd by Colin Jones twice and was also stopped by Fred Hutchins. That said the general consensus was that he could have achieved a whole lot more if he'd been more dedicated.

Although he held his hands dangerously low, there were times when he did look really good. He won British and European titles, but failed entirely to capitalise on his win over Duran.
