He pulled off the fight against Franco and now is fighting some Perez dude.
    wasn't Franco a mandatory?

no, beating franco would have made him mandotory for billy dib, but i guess he wasnt confident in beaitng either.

He was never off the card. Just the opponent.

Thought I read that Franco's promoter won the purse bid for Russell-Franco and was going to do the fight around September. Russell hasn't fought since Nov of last year and has had a fight or two fall out on him this year and said he didn't want to be off any longer.

The Bundrage-Spinks card is a GBP card and Showtime was already on board with showing a Russell fight so he went that direction.

Russell's explanation could be legit or there could be more to it, but thats what he said last week.

The fight would have been for a mandatory shot at, I believe, Billy Dib's IBF title.

i dont know that is a little overboard. i think he has some deficiencies in his fighting style, but, he has to be 1 of the most talented fighters out there. his speed is warp speed. fastest guy i have ever seen since roy jones jr :smoke

Little disappointed in Russ. . . Was hoping he'd up his comp. . .

But he's still young, and new. . But he should be stepping it up to B-level comp by the end of hte year, or 2013. .

i think gary shaw wanted to do it in july so goldenboy pulled russell from the fight stating that as the reason. but i think once they lost the bid they were never gonna let russell fight franco
