Could Victor intentionally butted Floyd to get out of the fight?

If this fight has a "fighter can be saved by the bell rule" Ortiz could've gone to the 5th cause there was 11 seconds left but Cortez counted him out so quick. He could've just sit and get his senses back to buy time. Instead he got up wobbly and the fight was over. But he was visibly in the la la land when he was down so I guess the stoppage was legit even with time expired.

This has been a damn good thread with a great variety of opinions. Why are you trying to take it back down to the level of the fan against fan bashing contest that seems to happen in so many threads on ESB? Can we keep it civil for a change.

To the thread question. This will be a lil' long.

Did he intentionally headbutt Floyd to get out of the fight. I don't believe so. I believe it was always apart of his strategy from the beginning. His team believed Floyd was a dirty fighter so on some level they meant to fight fire with fire. That's why he was doing it multiple times before he decided to go for the "HAIL MARY" headbutt in the 4th.

You gotta think about his position being a young buck. He's getting lit up often by Floyd's punches. He does have some success pushing Floyd up on the ropes and flailing away. Then he knows he isn't getting anywhere because Floyd still looks focused, unmarked, and completely unfazed by what he's doing. So frustration sets in, and he goes for the headbutt to end all headbutts. Except he isn't seasoned enough to do it right. He ****ed up royally and he knows it. He's down 4 rounds and he lost a point so a switch went off in his head and he pretty much gave up from that point on. If the fight had continued I think he would have just went into survival mode to not get KO'd. But...............

Floyd being pissed thought otherwise. I mean, how long as it been since he's tasted his own blood:twisted:. As soon as Cortez, gave the command to continue, and a half-assed command it was, Ortiz was embarrassed and ashamed in his own performance forgot where he was at and tried to apologize again. Floyd reminded him where he was at with the left hook. Ortiz looks at the ref rather lift up his gloves. And that is all she wrote.

Why was Ortiz so content after the loss? My opinion is because he himself believes he got exactly what he deserved. It was the one fighting dirty, not Floyd. He tried to use headbutts to give himself some kind of advantage and it didn't work, so how could he have the gall to complain about how it ended when he was the one that started the chain of events. That's what I think he felt and why he got over the loss rather quickly.

My question is when did Floyd hit Ortiz with his elbow? Some people in this keep bringing it up and I have yet to see any gifs or video showing it.

Yes he did. He was getting hit by right hand after right hand and he got tired of it and did what he did. Then he got KTFO!

I dont even think Ortiz knew what he was doing. Who cares? He was overmatched from day 1 and is not a very good fighter. The fact that he is a metal midget is only part of the problem.

not a chance. he was just so frustrated from being tagged time and time again cleanly while having such a terrible time landing even glancing blows of his own.

he had one bad night physically and mentally against madaina that is blown way out of porporsion. he was out of shape, drained from making weight and weak as hell from the weight loss. 140 was so bad for him. anyone who walks around for years at 170+ and not being fat should NOT be fighting at 140, ever. that is what did him in that night. he is a F warrior and has proved it to me.

the hate he gets is crazy especially considering he truly is one of the best fighters today. i truly dont know any fighters outside of floyd that beats him at 147 or 154. very tough fight for anyone. he is a monster, look how big he is and only 2 fights at WW now LMW and comes in mid 160's

Check out this old hating*ss thread.

Ortiz headbutted to be dirty. Ya'll seem to forget that he HAD gotten away with an intentional headbutt. He was trying to injure Floyd to give himself a better chance at winning the fight.
Unfortunately he made two mistakes. Trying to punk Floyd with the headbutt, and then trying to punk Floyd with his act of 'sorry' later.
    He had to pay...
