Pretty much this. He apparently misses being in the spotlight and it's normal for them, THE champions, especially. It's normal that he kind of envies the next man. Maybe it wouldn't have been the case if the next man (men) wasn't comparably succesful, (in terms of popularity and H2H ratings at least) but anyway.. Most react by coming back, he didn't, good and classy for him. As much as I do believe the Vitali fight made him retire earlier than he planned, he had nothing left to prove. Afterall he did beat the prime next man being slightly past it. Even if he was a tad lucky, it was an extremely competitive match up that showed he should be slightly favoured peak vs peak.
well depends on which lewis. young lewis was more aggressive and willing to brawl. older lewis was more cautious. also depends on how lewis viewed peter. if he viewed peter as a tough fight , he wouldn't jump on him. plus peter being much slower and shorter he would box him more. lewis liked to jump on guys his size or he viewed easy to take out imo. tougher guys , especially shorter ones he can easily outbox , he'd take his time. all depends. lennox was very talented. he could brawl and box.
All retired fighters miss being in the ring, being the center of attention and the big events. I think they all feel that they are better than the current champions and could beat them. Also, despite the revisionist history on this site and the dreams of many British fight fans, Lewis won with the legit TKO but ducked the rematch. As for Wlad vs. Lennox, at this point in his career I would favor Wlad slightly. Lennox was a better finisher but could be lazy and underestimate his opponents.
why would he be? he's financially set, he gets more credit than them both combined from the majority of people not in the ukraine or germany, and he retired on a tko 6 win against the older brother.
Lennox was a great fighter but I think the 2 KO losses he had even though he avenged them hurt him a little perception wise. Which, is probably unfair as he is in unique company with Gene Tunney and Rocky Marciano and Ingmar Johannesson as Heavyweight Champions to have beaten every fighter they ever faced. His legacy has certainly gained respect since he has retired.
Good post. I think his clearly bias commentary is due to him missing the ring and not beig able to retire on his own terms.
yep, I think Lewis hates Vitaly cause LL wanted to continue fighting and he would if they would not order him to fight Vitaly again
I wouldnt be Lewis came from a better Era and will be respected much more considering he beat Klitschko on his way out.
Lewis is mad he doesn't get credit for his win by default. . . Haha the fans in the arena that night spoke for just about every REAL boxing fan. . Hahaha that's why he overcompensates sometimes by talking about how he beat Vitali. Vitali got in his ass, and RETIRED HIM. . . Hahahahhaa
Not by default he won according to the rules by way of TKO, whats sad is that fight would have been stopped in any other state the moment that cut took place and Vitali was given nearly half of the fight to get it done and he just couldnt. And the crowd there, they were all pro klitschko you had alot of white fans there who have long waited for this moment either way at the end of the day Lewis TKO 6 deal with it
LOl. . I am a great KLitschko fan. . I defend their honor because they are not here to defend it themselves. . . Wladimir has admitted he reads what people say about him, and it affects him. . . The fact is, Lennox didn't do what a gentleman, and a warrior would do - grant the rematch to give the fans the TRUE HW champion. .
I am not sure how long you have followed the sport, But Lewis stated after the Tyson fight he wanted to give Canada a farewell bout which was set up between Lewis who represented Canada in the olympics and Kirk Johnson. He didnt have to take the fight with Klitschko, but once Johnson pulled out with an injury, Lewis saved the fight date in which Klitschko was set to face boswell on the undercard and granted Vitali his mandatory shot. And just because Vitali lost the way he did, Lewis is required to give him a rematch? considering he was already pondering retirement? Be real Vitali was given more than a fair shot, his cut in any other state would have ended the fight immediately and due to the card nearly being canceled the California commission looked the other way when his eye from the get was clearly not a cut that could be stopped. Vitali only has himself to blame
That's too bad. He doesn't deserve the **** he gets on the personal level he gets it. He's done what he's needed to in order to be an ATG Heavyweight by beating many of the top world contenders of his own time.
