In a 24 ft ring no less. Eleta ****ed Duran in this one. He and King were seeing only $ signs and cared not for Roberto. For me though, Duran never fought the same after Montreal. The rage was gone. All the hunger satiated. He never again fought that style that brought him from lightweight to welter. He became really a counterpuncher after Montreal and was nevr the Duranimal again. Real knowledgeable fans know. Even the fighters in the gym knew.

Thank you sir. No need to overanalyze this fight at all IMO. But, I'm sure if you look hard enough you'll find others with a complete 180 degree opinion.

Just go to the general forums :patsch

I also had it very close. Actually scoring it a 1 point for Ray, but am completely okay with the decision...as I said it was close.

I really don't think this fight was that close, sugar ray fought courageously but Duran kicked his ass, if your gonna stand flat footed and trade with duran your gonna lose. I really think duran just dominated and everyone else just has sentiment for a young ray leonord. your boy lost this one....it was a learning experience for him now get over it

I had it 9-6. I think Gil Clancy was commentating the fight and had Leonard winning the fight, that really appalled me.

Yeah man, I even tried to be gentle about it. Freddie admitted to making that bellyache **** up because he just couldn't deal with the truth. Just gotta speak up once in awhile or dudes under 30 will believe all this **** :D

I've never seen this fight commentated by Clancy (not saying it doesn't exist). I think the Cosell and Ferdie Pacheco versions are biased toward Leonard.

It was a clear win for Duran. The fight wasnt as close as the judges had it. Leonard took some punishment in this one. To the body and head. On the other hand he had trouble connecting on Duran with anything clean.

The judges scored an uncommon # of even rounds which is why people say it was "close". There were a few rounds I wouldve called even but not 10 as on judge had it.

There is no reasonable arguement that Leonard won that fight. He got his asskicked basically.

    Interesting.

I saw an interview with Carlos Eleta in which he claims to have gone to Don King to get the fight postponed because Duran was struggling to lose that excess weight.

Source; Beyond the Glory- Roberto Duran.

Not sure why the fight would need to be postponed if he was in top shape.
