BUGNER IS DONE WITH DUNN: A lot of Bugner haters hoped that Richard Dunn would off him in 1976. But Bugner destroys Dunn in one round for the British, British Commonwealth, and European titles. Outside of Lennox Lewis and David Haye, Bugner is easily the greatest heavyweight ever produced by the UK.

NO COMPETITION IN EUROPE: Bugner batters Bepi Ros en route to an easy win in defense of his Euro title, 1974. Bugner was so much better than his European competition that EBU officials were embarrassed to name his mandatories.

DANTE'S INFERNO: Italy's Dante Cane challenged Bugner for the Euro title in 1975, and came out looking like he'd been in a meat grinder. Bugner's slashing combinations ended matters in five easy rounds.

I think Tommy Farr and Bomber Bruno may disagree. Frank in particular has nearly eight rounds of evidence to back up his case, against an Aussie Joe who was coming off impressive wins against Tillis, Bey and Page...

BATTERED: Bugner had Leroy Caldwell reeling and ready to go in 1972, but the American clinched so much the ref called a DQ.

But we're talking about the prime Bugner, during the years 1973-77. The Bugner of 1987 was just a shadow of his former self. No comparison.

    Don't you agree?

I actually put Cooper over Bugner. Wins over Foley, London, Esrkine, Mildenberger, and Harris. Also gave Bunger a tough fight despite being something like 16 years older in the last fight of his career?

5TH BEST HEAVYWEIGHT IN 1975: Bugner visits New York City in 1975 to announce his upcoming challenge against Muhammad Ali. At this point in time, Bugner was peaked and primed: the world's very best heavyweight outside of Ali, Foreman, Frazier, and Norton. Face it, guys...on his best night Bugner would have smoked Quarry, Lyle, Shavers, Bonavena, and Young.

GOING THE DISTANCE WITH "THE GREATEST": Bugner challenges Ali for the world crown and fights well, lasting 15 rounds with history's all-time greatest heavyweight. Going into this match, Bugner was WBC #2, WBA #3, and rated #4 by Ring Magazine, #4 by International/World Boxing, and #4 by Boxing Illustrated.

Not totally. Bugner in 73 was an excellent fighter and he did have his moments up to and including the Dunn fight. He did dip after that, but the move to Australia revitalized him. The victory over Page was as good as I had seen Joe fight since Dunn and the biggest name he had beaten since arguably Foster.

Bruno was fighting a genuine top 15 (arguably top 10), Heavyweight in the world, the night he comprehensively beat Joe.

    :patsch This guy is crazy.

He had a stinker with Lyle while both were near their primes.

And a waaaay past it Shavers(blind and losing to guys like Cobb) busted up Bugner in 2 rounds.

The Page victory was decisive, but Bugner's athletic abilities at that point in time -- he was 36 year old and about 25 lbs overweight -- were inferior to what he displayed in the 1973-77 period. By 1987 he was slower, less flexible, and showed less vitality than during his younger years.

I gotta put you on the ignore list, now, TBooze. It's just a temporary banning, though. I'll start reading your posts again in a week. That's better than the other guys I've put on ignore: their banning is permanent.

    Adios!
