In all fairness,Joe had been out for two years, and Earnie still had his crowbar of a right hand.

But then again...I'll let TBooze stay. No ignore button. At least offers reasons for his arguments, unlike some of the others here...

You should just put Mongoose on ignore. If he can't understand that the Bugner of the 1982 Shavers fight was (very much) subpar and past his prime, then don't even try to reason with him.

Regarding the Shavers fight, Bugner was really coming off of a five year inactivity period. Bugner's only bout between 1977 and 1982 was a 10th round TKO over Gilberto Acuna in 1980. Nothing else.

Shavers had that crowbar of a right hand at his best too.

Shavers was just "done" at this point, reason he was selected as a comeback opponent...eh, bad idea.

Maybe Bugner at his best beats the washed up 82 version of Shavers..i hope to god so because he was just sad to watch at this point. But at his best, I don't think there's much of argument that Bugner is smoking him or whatever he said.

Not to mention Bunger smoking Lyle...when they fought to a stinker Split Decision while near their best.

And Shavers was a complete washed up shell of himself losing to guys like Cobb and worse at this point. He was suppose to be an easy comeback for Bugner.

BRITAIN'S GREATEST EVER 20-YEAR-OLD HEAVYWEIGHT: Bugner raises his hand in victory after schooling Carl Gizzi. At the time, The London Times wrote that Bugner was the best heavyweight, for his age and limited experience level, ever produced by Britain.

BULLWHIP LEFT JAB: The Greatest of All Time, Muhammad Ali, recoils after absorbing Bugner's left jab. Bugner had one of the greatest left jabs of any boxer in the 1970s.

ON THE ATTACK: Bugner, the world's 5th best heavyweight in 1975, has the world's best heavyweight, Muhammad Ali, on the defensive in Kuala Lumpur.

LONDON FALLING: Jurgen Blin hits the deck en route to losing to Bugner via 8th round KO in 1972. Prior to this match, Blin had been stopped only once, by none other than Muhammad Ali.

BRITIAN'S GREATEST ****! Bugner is a mask of concentration as he squeezes out the largest turd in European history. Bugner had one of the strongest spincsters of the 70s.

ICONOCLAST: Bugner commits British boxing's version of sacrilege in 1971 by whipping Henry Cooper. Here, Cooper's despair shows as he absorbs a right to the body.

STYLISH TRENDSETTER? Bugner shows off his edgy avant garde fashion sense. Behind Frazier and Ali, Bugner was one of the best dressed fighters of the 70s.
