What was your point of bring up Pascal, yes Dawson lost to him but also beat the guy that Pascal was beaten by...Please help me understand because I'm not grasping it at all.

Taking Bute's 0 is better than beating a champ moving down to fight you, it's not hard to grasp.

Ward would be a better regarded fighter for beating bute for sure. The high risk approach and wish to fight and beat all comers is not something on team wards agenda. I had high hopes for the Ward Bute fight and was sorely disappointed when ward decided it was not the direction he wanted to go in. Ward was hardly inundated with quality options and Dawson hadn't called him out yet so why not fight the best on offer? He probably would have decisioned bute, earned **** loads of cash and loads more publicity..

well, i'm relieved, that regardless what you say, andre ward is still the best super middleweight on earth. he's dominated froch, kessler, bika, green, and abraham. he has top fighter, chad dawson on the horizon, who is a better fighter than lucian bute and a man who has pedigree in boxing, period.

It would have solidified the 168 division and created a universally recognized champ. Even if Bute is not the second (or likely third or fourth) best 168 pounder in the world, unifying the title would have been a significant accomplishment.

As a Ward fan, I was disappointed it didn't happen.

ward is a consummate professional, and he definitely wasn't afraid of bute as bailey groundlessly alluded. It would have been a significant accomplishment, but in retrospect, bute wasn't as good as he was touted to be, so it's fine.

 

Styles makes fights, not out of the question to suggest Bute would fair much better against Ward than he did against Froch.

 

You have to remember that Bailey is a Joe Cal fan, not a boxing fan. Reading his posts is kind of like watching Fox News or listening to NPR, the bias is so thick you often overlook or can't see the facts.

That said, Bailey has done extensive research on the 168 pound division and has enlightened me on it. If you read between the bias, he has some gems.

bute's style is made for ward to rough him up and physically dominate him on the inside over the course of 12 rounds. he does not possess elite physical strength as carl froch, the guy ward was able to overpower, proved over the course of a one sided drubbing of a championship bout.

 

Hindsight is wonderful thing, i dont think its fine that the fight did not happen when it would have been big. Ward misses out and its his fault, so it's fine. No point in claiming some kind of small victory for Ward because Bute came unstuck down the road against a fighter prepared to get their hands dirty so to say. Boxing is Boxing and styles makes fights, Bute would still be a tough fight for Ward and its a fight i would like to see.

 

he's done extensive research and that's good for him. i'm not interested in joe calzaghe's super middleweight division though. it no longer exists.
