Round 1

Escalante circles right and waves his right jab up at his much taller opponent. Villanueva tries to place his left jab on the low target the southpaw is presenting with his bobbing and jerking head. Slow and steady pressure from Villanueva, almost lazy with the jab but straight and well-aimed despite Escalante's movement. Pawing right jabs and hooks by Escalante circling side to side, too far away, hitting air or glove. OH!!! Big uppercut by Escalante catches Villanueva from outside and stuns him! Villanueva falls atop Escalante and holds!!

Escalante is hopping around luring Villanueva in and then popping the right jab up over his guard. Villanueva has a cut on his left eye. Escalante lands a body shot, and Villanueva falls hard on his butt - unrelated. Just a slip. No knockdown. Escalante is darting in and out, missing lots of jabs and just churning air but also keeping Villanueva shy on the outside and catching him when he does try to put in a long left jab by firing a southpaw 1-2 up the middle. BIG left hook by Villanueva misses trying to catch Esclanate against the ropes. Escalante ducks a right hand and keeps turning Villanueva, popping right jabs.
