Do you think Ortiz really did break his jaw, or did he want a way out?

I really like Victor, but after the fight, they went back to studio (on UK tv) and the guys were saying that Ortiz didn't even flinch when he was hit with the supposed shot that broke his jaw. Also, he did that quick post fight interview.

Do you think he did break his jaw or jar it like the guys in the studio said?

he definitely flinched and his jaw drooped down. he was spitting thick streams of blood and he couldnt close his mouth, even during the post fight interview.

HE didnt break his jaw. Lopez broke his jaw.

Who knows the true extent of the damage but you can clearly see he got popped while his jaw was opened. I've had my jaw dislocated before and the pain was unbearable without vicodin.

don't know wtf is the big deal

some people can't deal with pain. So what?

Vitali quit with a hurt shoulder.. which he then made up to be a torn router cuff.

Now can 99% of all fighters go on with a 'hurt shoulder' ya of course

But not Vitali and we gotta respect that

just like we should respect ortiz not wanting to fight on with a broken jaw

I got mad respect for Vitali and Victor

I don't know what the **** those UK analysts were talking about. The replay clearly shows a flush power shot land on right on his jaw while his mouth was open, and even when you watch it in real time, you notice Ortiz run and back away from Lopez after that exchange as though something was bothering him.

His mouth remained open throughout after that. Spitting blood continuously. I think it was broken.

If he did he had 2-3 rounds left to get on his bike. But I guess he would rather quit than show some boxing skill.

I definitely think it was broken. I'm British and watched the Showtime version because the British SKY team are complete and utter ****ing idiots, i wouldn't pay much attention to anything they have to say.

He got caught with a huge shot in the 9th, his jaw visibly went sort of 'floppy' and he immediately backed off and stopped throwing punches. Due to his previous, you could say he was looking for a way out but i definitely think his jaw was broken. I'm not going to start calling someone a quitter under these circumstances but can see why others would.

Boxing is a sport where we - as fans - demand more than is reasonable and if these demands aren't met, we chastisize the very warriors whom make the sport we love what it is. Rightly or wrongly, we take fighters like Arthur Abraham and Muhammad Ali for granted when they continue with broken jaws, and destroy the likes of Vitali Klitschko and Victor Ortiz for "quitting". "Quitting" is the cardinal sin in boxing and fans never let you forget it. Some ****ing idiots now still question Vitali's heart due to a one-off incident that happened over a decade ago (i can't stand the Klit's btw, check my short post history).

Also, i didn't like it when the Showtime cameras invaded Ortiz's dressing room at the end of the fight and showed him crying into his dressing room sink. The man has just gave you a great fight and was visibly distraught at what had just happened, give the man a ****ing moment to himself. Blood was pouring out of his mouth, he was in tears and he was physically ****ed up (apparently a broken jaw and sternum), give the guy a break and show some ****ing respect.

It was an awesome fight. You gotta check it out the first chance you get. Most people had the scores more or less even at the time - I think I had it 5-4 to Lopez when it was stopped. It kinda' went like this for me:

    1. Lopez wins the earlier rounds while Ortiz was warming up. Ortiz defence was pretty **** - was being hit with huge flush shots that would back him up. After round 3 I had Lopez 2-1 up.

    2. The momentum swings in Ortiz's favour, with his power beginning to play a factor. You get the impression a knockout will be coming soon, because Lopez is hurt numerous times. Ortiz looks pretty good and wins three straight rounds; taking a 4-2 lead.

    3. Lopez isn't caving in like we thought he would. In fact, he's giving as good as he gets, and more! Ortiz gets frustrated with him spoiling (ducking, holding at the waist, clinching both of his arms, etc), and at some point punches him in the back of the head. Ortiz loses control of the fight as Lopez beats him with beautiful uppercuts. Man, they were sweet! He himself wins three rounds in a row and takes back his lead, making it 5-4. A real sea-saw of a fight. And that's when it's stopped, as it turns out Ortiz's jaw was bust from a hard shot at the end of the 9th.

In my opinion, Ortiz didn't look in that good shape. He looked a bit skinnier than usual. I think he may have overtrained. It looked as though he was expecting an easy night's work. Walk in, have a quick brawl, and stop him by the 5th. And, for a moment, it looked like that was gonna' happen. But Lopez just held on and came back himself - totally not what Ortiz was expecting.

As for Ortiz, I think he'll get a rematch, and he'll bounce back from it. I genuinely believe he had an ok reason to not continue. And when he feels the criticism, I think he'll be eager to answer it. Definitely not the end for him or anything.

Of course it was broken. Slap yourself for asking lol. And yes he wanted out. He shouted out to the referee for help. Dude wasnt gonna keep fighting with his jaw hanging down. Some fighters mayne would have and some wouldnt. I aint gonna judge him for being a part of the latter
