A destruction that about 50 heavyweights since could have achieved.

i don't dispute that at all. but you have to remember that those 50 heavyweights mostly evolved from the olden days of jack dempsey. dempsey's style would be considered a bit primitive or inferior compared to let's say frazier or tyson, so the fact that he destroyed willard like he did with what he had was admirable.

He made the most of his opportunity, no doubt. I just don't think an old part time boxer, full-time oaf who was inactive is that great of a pelt.

frazier beat a very, very good version of ali who is probably the greatest HW of all time. he beat bugner, a very good contender. he beat quarry, ellis and foster also. the ali win and quarry wins were very good and i think smoke is better than dempsey.

Your intitled to your opinion as I am mine. In my book if you put them both in a ring in there primes, Dempsey wins.

I'm a huge Dempsey fan, but why is it whenever we discuss Dempsey-Tunney the three year lay off is always brought up, but Willards.similar inactivity is never mentioned.

Nor is Willard's age of 37. Look, Willard was Dempsey's route to the title. I don't ridicule him for taking the fight and certainly congratulate him for the manner in which he dispatched the old farmhand. But, as a purely boxing victory, I am not as impressed. It's not like he met a formidable, well-rounded champion in his prime. He met an old, relatively novice, inactive Champ who was physically well past it.

Personality wise i don't think he's much at all like Duran from what i can gather. They have being a psycho in common, but he's more humble and classy than Duran, and definatley smarter.

I'd say he's more like a Nigel Benn type of character
