Soto was "playing possum" in the early rounds against Matthysse by fighting in Low-Gear, cause he's done this in past fights against David Diaz, Jesus Chavez, etc. cause he knocked them down in the 1st round but let them go the full 12 rounds on purpose to make himself look mediocre so he can try to lure the big names to fight him,
BUT against Matthysse, Soto's "playing possum" plan backfired cause he got caught good hurt and didnt recover.

Plus Soto almost has 70 pro fights in his 15 year career, whereas Matthysse is young and fresh.
Even though Soto's past opponents were C & D-level boxers, Soto spent many years training/sparring in the gym, and that takes some toll.

Soto will have to fight in High-gear from now on, and stop "playing possum" and you'll see, he will be stronger and better than before.

Im not mad that Soto lost, and am somewhat happy that he got KO's, cause it will teach him a lesson, to STOP "playing possum" and fight for real.

Soto could KO Matthysse if they fight again, cause he's have a better fight plan.

u know what i saw last night? i saw a one dimensional brawler with little punching power get knocked out. his game plan was atrocious. he was leaving himself wide open for that heavy right hand and it connected time and time again. it was really just a matter of time before he got knocked out. his head movement was non existent and his ring iq is as low as ive ever seen. he made no adjustments whatsoever. marquez would box the pants off this guy and pacquiao would knock him out. the way he moves reminds me a lot of margarito and rios. the old mexican style of fighting is no good. it shortens careers and causes brain damage.
furthermore, i think matthysse really hurt this guy and i dont think his chin will eve be the same again. his career is pretty much over.

Matthysse is young and fresh, while Soto is old, and almost has 70 pro fights, 3 world titles, in a 15 year career.
