Maidana got a bit of a beating from Alexander. What would Matthysse get out of beating Maidana? Not a damn thing. Matthysse deserves a big fight.

 

He's not "overrated trash". Lacking skills doesn't always translate into lacking cleverness or effectiveness in the ring. If Thurman wins, I'll give him props, but this is a big step up in class for him. People need to stop shitting on fighters that don't use the slick defensive style they think defines quality.

people said the same thing when Cayo stepped to Maidana but then got that ass whooped.

 

Matthysse is a better technical boxer, doesn't have stamina problems like Maidana and actually gets stronger as a fight goes on and has shown a terrific chin while Marcos's is average. I'd definitely favor Matthysse.

Really don't know why Maidana has to beat Thurman for this fight to happen. This fight needs to happen regardless of Thurman. Thurman is quite a bit bigger and potentially much better than both of these guys.

With Thurman's size and pedigree, one may wonder why he is being matched up with Maidana and the likes. It willbe a big embarrassment for Thurman if he doesn't stop, or at least totally outclass Maidana.

Maidana has Matthysse's number, on top of that, I know Maidana can take shots at 147, the Soto fight showed that Matthysse is having problems taking shots now and I don't know if he can deal with Maidana's style and power.

Maidana clearly got to where he is by being unrefined; despite his opponents know exactly what to expect and nearly always have the more sound fundamentals, there's a reason he eventually catches and times them. He's got things working in his favor (awkwardness, cleverness, timing) that lots of fans don't pick up on just because it's not an extravagant presentation of Ring IQ.
