This is interesting video to show the difference of how a Muay Thai guy trains!

One of the thing I noticed, was that Buakaw was hitting 3 tires stacked on each other, hanging from the ceiling. He was using it as a punch bag, but was conditioning his punches.

Could boxers use some of this training for their fights?

Those are some bad ass mofos. Muay thai has to be one of the best martial arts to know for a street fight. Also noticed how those guys don't bring their hands back after throwing a punch. Newbies at boxing.

But a kick has more reach than a punch, and has a lot more power! So the kick would reach someone's face or body with devastating effect! Could you imagine that guy with his Muay Thai skills and some advanced boxing training? Dude would be even more of a beast!

Looks pretty wide open when they kick... but hey it don't matter when a kick that hits you in the side of the thigh feels like an aluminum bat. **** hurts like a *****

Those guys destroy all of the nerves endings on their legs so they feel no pain when they hit something. You can condition any part of your body and harden it to the point where it will feel almost no pain. Repeatedly hitting a part of the body also hardens the bones to make it stronger so these guys are literally kicking with weapons.

He's good but I'd put Buakaw, Saiyok, and Saenchai in MT rules, not the limited K-1 rules.

When they punch, they are extending their hands to clinch for their famous knees.

This is not the norm, most gyms in Thailand don't have these although some do. I think this is more for VDO effect in waht is basically a promo clip.

Most of these guys having trained as pros from the age of around 8 have more ring experiedce at the age of 16 (sometimes well over 100 fights) than alot of boxers every get and they spar 3 days a week just hands. One of the reasons the hands are not always brought back so quick is to keep range to defend against the knee, which is a Kryptonite counter to a punch. But to be honest that clip isn't showing real training it's a staged promo.

Samart Payakaroon: 4 weight Lumpini belt holder in Muay Thai the equivalent and more respected version of a wold title belt at the time and he also was a WBC junior featherweight champ in normal boxing in 86. And he's not the only one, there are more.

As a ex Muay Thai fighter who has trained and lived in BKK for over 10 years, this is a myth we hear all the time. It's nothing more than rountine bag work and sparring, so basically normally Muay Thai conditioning.

As RJJ mentions a great fighter he is, but in the kickboxing world not so much the MT world, he tends to lose full Muay Thai rules. The gap in quality between Thai's and westerners below middleweight is huge and will probably never be bridged.

    Buakaw was robbed.:deal

    Good post:good

    ^^^

Yeah, but during the process of continuously banging your legs against a hard target, do u not kill some of the nerve endings and your legs are more tolerant to pain than say someone right off the streets?

    To answer your question: No.

Boxer's don't need to punch 3 tires stacked on the each other.

It would still condition you and be good training for a boxer.
