Tank Williams "I am more Chinese than Chauncy Welliver"????

Only thing Welliver destroys is a Chinese buffet bar. He couldn't even put away a 47 yr old Bert Cooper that came out of his grave to fight Welliver.

 

Real boxing fans -- people who are seriously into the fight scene -- care about this fight. This one is an exciting, intriguing match-up that will make the winner a legitimate 2nd tier heavyweight.

Why is being a legitimate 2nd tier heavyweight interesting? Because a guy has to be on that level before he's eligible for a showdown with the world's best. Every legitimate top contender establishes himself on Tier 2 first, then moves upward. The outcome of this fight will tell us what big fight (possibly on TV) will follow.

Welliver is upwardly mobile, young, and potentially a real contender. This bout will answer a lot of questions. Williams is definitely not a contender, but he's experienced, dangerous, and is not the kind of guy that Tier 1 and Tier 2 heavyweights fight unless they have a good reason to. Generally, nobody wants the grief of having to fight Williams. Kudos to Welliver for taking this fight.

This is a fine match-up in my book. Very interesting.

I expect that Welliver will come out on top, by decision. My guess is that it's anyone's fight for four, five or even six rounds. Williams power will have an impact in those early stanzas. But Welliver's boxing skills, tricks, speed, and volume punching should be the driving elements in the bout after the fifth. Youth, vitality, and workrate will prevail in the middle and late rounds.

Final scores could be anywhere from 6-5-1 to 8-2-2 to 8-4 or 10-2 for Welliver. I'm not sure of the spread, but I'm certain Welliver wins.

After this, we'll probably see Welliver's name in Boxrec's top 25 ratings.
