What makes Ali different is his name Is known where ever you go. You can go poll a bunch of middle schoolers and majority would know who Ali is.

I think it is really something like this..

    Ali

    Tyson

    Marciano

Any barbershop in the US will discuss these if they talk boxing.. Ali and Marciano will be known by everyone above 50 years old. Tyson will be known by most above 30 years old.

The difference is that Ali is really more than a boxer. He is THE boxing icon. Anyone who doubts that should search for "superman vs Muhammed Ali".

    __________

SJL, ODLH, Pacman, Mayweather, Hagler, Hearns etc.. are universally wellknown by boxing fans, but not by none-fans.

He did prove in his one and only actual fight with Kid Thunder Hartley that he did have more pull than Oscar de la Hoya and Steve Forbes. That is a fact my friend! No one on the discussion boards gave a **** about Oscar de la Hoya and Steve Forbes. May 4th, 2008 the forums were crammed with discussions about Charlie and Andrew's fight.
