Because everyone on this site thinks they could handle it if they were in that position. Because no one here has any clue how dangerous that is.
He's getting the hate because of the Maidana fight. That's where it all comes from. If he never quit against Maidana, he wouldn't get so much flack. But, not only that, but it goes back to what Kellerman said after Ortiz quit against Maidana. Something along the lines of, boxers are held to a much higher standard than anybody else in sports. People expect boxers to fight with bumps and bruises and expect to continue when the going gets tough. Ortiz made his bed when he quit against Maidana and that's his reputation. Did he have a reasonable excuse to quit versus Lopez? Absolutely. Broken jaw, internal bleeding, who knows how much he was pissing blood, he may still be pissing blood right now, as we speak...er, type. But boxers are held to that high standard of being able to keep going when the going gets tough. That's why when fighters such as Ali, Abraham, Gatti, etc. get rewarded and are labeled a "warrior." It takes a rare, special breed of fighter to fight through agonizing pain.
there is nothing wrong with him stopping after the jaw got busted up like that, the only thing i have to say about ortiz is that he does have a glass mind.... he gets so frustrated so easily when things dont go as planned that he starts acting stupid and acting dirty, that is why i personally dont like him
Another excellent accurate post .I agree, boxers are held to a higher standard. And the Maidana fight will haunt him ...
I agree, it`s more about his mental state when the going gets rough, he kind of loses it. Golota had those tendencies. Damn good fighter, but he`d totally lose his cool and it cost him fights and eventually his career.
Pretty much this. Lot of people who've never been in a fight in their lives on here, let alone been in with a professional fighter throwing punches on your BROKEN JAW!
First of all, Nothing in Ortiz's resume supports him having a glass jaw. Glass Jaw= Easy to knock out. out of his 4 losses Victor Ortiz has been knocked out once by a suckerpunch. Ortiz has deff quit twice in a fight so far not three times, Maidana and Lopez. Whether or not he could've gotten up from that knockout by Floyd is not known by anyone but ortiz and anyone he confided in. Be aware that because of his quit towards Maidana some people may form a bias towards Ortiz being a quitter and therefore feel he deff quit even if it wasn't true. (that sort of mental bias could be brought on further to even call him a quitter now) Second, he has 2 fractures in his jawbone and a is swallowing a ****ton of blood. You can't exactly compare that to Ali's broken Jaw which was swollen and wasn't bleeding out into his mouth. Why is there a difference? 1. Having a mouthfull of anything makes it harder to breath, go ahead put your face under a showerhead let the water pour down on your face and try breathing. In a high stress sport like boxing where you can't exactly just focus on your breathin because so much is going on thats gonna make it hard. 2. If the artery suggestion is right, then he would be losing a lot of blood fast and swollowing it only makes it worse because if you drink enough blood you will become nauseous and sickly. If the first break Ortiz suffered caused the bleeding then he would've been swallowing blood for a couple of rounds. So now, Ortiz has 2 fractures in his bone, he is fighting an opponent obsessed and trying hard to infight and keep socking ortiz with the uppercuts and hooks, he is swallowing blood and the man does not have a good defence. I understand he quit, in fact I think its a good thing. The state of the performance would only have dropped after this. The amount of pain he was going through must have been intense. Combine the amount of damage he recieved with the potential of more damage soon and the fact that he was leading only a slight bit by the end of the 9th round means that he would most deffinately lost the fight by 12 rounds and would've probably done more damage to that area, its a good thing he quit. ESPN has stated that victor will probably not be boxing for a year because of this injury I don't like Ortiz. He is rediculous, just weird and annoying. He has a ****ing short temper, fouls CONSTANTLY and is too narcisistic. But I will defend his choice to withdraw because **** you can't expect anything else from anyone. You guys saw the bangers Lopez was throwing at victor. The fracture also made it impossible for ortiz to keep his mouth closed so he was even more of a gaping target then he already is. This was a fight with great moments while it lasted. A great infight with a bunch of nice exchanges, both fighters were getting bruised and destroyed for as long as it lasted it was a good advertisment for the sport (also if you exclude ortiz's constant fouls). So his pain threshhold is also debatable but I'll be honst a fracture hurts like **** and especially in the jawline. Considering he was being punished with a fracture for 4 straight rounds and it took another ****ing one to stop him means that its pretty high. Whether or not its as high as ali or abraham or whatever you want to compare him to doesn't matter the guy willingly took blows to a broken jaw for 4 rounds, this is ****ing saying something. Ortiz is not an amazing fighter. He is a good fouler (not great because he gets caught). But he seems to have a good chin on himself and quite the pain threshold. I hate the guy but I think him for putting on a good 9 round fight and for allowing us to see how great a fighter Lopez can be. Don't be a dick, you can hate Ortiz all you want but don't make it as though the amount of damage he suffered ia no big thing.
What a relief it is to see some intelligence with regard to Ortiz. My faith in TRUE boxing fans is restored... Hard to see that people can`t seperate their hatred of a fighter, from accurate assesment of what kind of fighter they are ...
The people that are calling Vicious a "Quitter" are nothing but a bunch of Pussies.. Arm-chair Boxing Gods that would **** their pants if they ever took a single punch in real life!
People online will continue to need people to hate, and be key board warriors, put em down etc..due to insecurities etc. he is just part of that, the guy could be slow, dimwitted and have no heart, but to show the hate is just trolling.. Boxing heads do not need to troll,it is more of the fan boys who not respect proffessional fighters,as if they owe them something.
He's a cheap shot artist. Blatant back of the head shot. Blatant superman head butt against Floyd. I don't give an F about his injury. He deserved what he got in both fights. Cheap shot artists should get no sympathy.
I did not waste five seconds listening to that moron babble. Boxing is brutal. It is dangerous. It takes tough men to compete in it. Fact. If you cannot stand seeing people get brutally beaten, KOed, and injured it would be better to stop watching this sport and find a new one like Curling or Tiddlywinks because pussies like this who are willing to excuse a multiple time Quitter and one of the biggest Glass Jawed Jokes in Boxing are the reason we have squeamish refs and an awful generation of fighters who are nothing more than Hype Jobs.
