Greb book?

I like Klompton. I get him. He's a guy who knows what he knows, and he's done the legwork necessary to have a position as strong as he does, so he feels he's earned that.

He does come off a bit abrasive, but what person with strong opinions and conclusions doesn't?

This book is on my reading list, and I'm sure it'll be worth the wait. He doesn't seem the type to half-ass anything.

It does. Needs some editing. And even if Klompton was what people say he was, that would put him in good company amongst writers.

 

It will be an indespensible source of information, not only about Harry Greb, but also about many other fighters of the era.

 

Just type in Les Darcy, and find the thread about Darcy vs Ray Robinson I believe. Before my time but from what I hear it was epic

 

I had my account unbanned recently so it's possible that some of them have had theirs unbanned as well.

 

Nah he got banned after another thread that got personal between Klompton and another guy. The trouble was 3-4 other posters who weren't involved in the feud got banned as well, all due to the monumental ego's of the two antagonists.

Actually wondered where you had gone GreatA, i've seen you post on various sites for a number of years. Never seen an abrasive post from you in that time, even in the heat of debate you've remained a courteous poster, at times even acting as a mediator between others. If you were banned in that fiasco thats quite disappointing.

The problem with Klompton ,imo, was that he thinks he was the only one in the queue when God handed out brains.
He once stated that Marciano had his front teeth knocked out by Louis, this on the basis of an after fight picture of Rocky smiling sans front top set. When I told him Marciano had a bridge he made no reply.
He laughed scornfully when I said Tommy Burns had his jaw swollen to twice its normal size in his losing fight with Johnson. When I produced ringside reports corroborating this he again made no reply.

He has an overweaning sense of his own self worth and was invariably dismissive and downright rude to those he disagreed with. I do not know the circumstances of his ban , but I don't think he is greatly missed . Pity his arrogant personality ,and huge ego encroached so much into what were often knowledgable posts.
That said, if the book gets finished I will probably buy it. After all ,I won't have to read his sneering put downs of others in it , just concentrate on its subject.

 

I think this book with be a a great resource, the definitive source of knowledge on Harry Greb.
Judging from the sample there, it's unlikley to be a page-turner with that style of writing. It's more an encyclodpediac biography, which is probably what most here would expect and want.

 

Christ it must be detailed. 470 pages in and Greb has only just won the world title.

Seriously whatever my feelings for Klompton are (and I couldn't stand him) this Greb book is clearly a labour of love and as such I don't quite feel right dumping on it.

But a book of that size and subject will only really appeal to absolute hardcore boxing fans willing to shell out a fair bit of cash for what doesn't look like the easiest of reads.

It will have to find a niche market, that being online boxing fans aware of Klompton and his book that he somehow hasn't managed to **** off yet, which by my reckoning would be a bloody minute market.

 

IT is already a great resource ... I ;earned more in those two pages than I have in many bios ... "a style not popular w the crowd" ... new and interesting to me ... I hope he gets it out soon ... I care far less if it is written well and care far more for the info he will pack in it ...
