Carl Froch expects an announcement about a rematch with Mikkel Kessler to be made within the next fortnight, as he sets his sights on avenging his defeat at the hands of the Dane.

Froch lost his WBC super-middleweight belt to Kessler in Denmark in April 2010, and after claiming the IBF crown with a fifth-round knockout of Lucian Bute last month is eyeing his revenge over Kessler.

Nottingham fighter Froch is prepared to fulfil his duties of defending his newly-acquired IBF title and has a rematch clause with Bute to honour, but Kessler is the fight he desperately wants.

"There's going to be a mandatory IBF [defence]," Froch told Sky Sports News. "There's obviously the rematch clause for Bute. I'm not sure how that's going in terms of whether I want to go to Canada or not or whether he even wants me to fight him."

Froch continued: "Mikel Kessler is the fight I want. I think [promoter] Eddie Hearn had a meeting with his promoters this week and they're getting slowly there.

"There are a lot of things that have to be done in the background in order to make a fight happen: his team's got to be happy, we've got to be happy.

"We're talking about getting them over to England which is always difficult to sign a contract [on]. Things are moving forward and hopefully in the next two weeks we'll have an announcement to make."

Froch promised fans a belter of a rematch and a victory to boot when adding: "The first fight was brilliant. That was a 12-round fight which could have gone either way and everybody who watched that fight really enjoyed it. I don't know if I enjoyed it so much, I had a sore head for about three weeks after it!

"It was a great fight for the boxing fan and the general public who like to watch a good old scrap, and a rematch will be the same but with a different result. I'm definitely going to beat Kessler, especially if it is in England as well."

I think Froch will beat him in the rematch.

There was a few rounds in the first fight that I thought could have gone either way but you expect them to go to the guy fighting at home, not that I thought Froch won but it was close.

that's why carl froch is my favorite fighter. any fighter could have just said, "I went life and death with this guy, I don't wanna step in the ring with this guy again." instead, froch is ready to war it out once again. he's the premier warrior in the sport.

Agreed. I think Froch was actually a little tentative in that fight. Resorting to sitting back and pumping the jab for long stretches. I think he will be a bit more aggressive, but still box.

It's very brave of Kessler too, Froch very nearly ended Kessler's career last time they fought, so both guys are brilliant for boxing if they want to fight again.
