All you have to do is read the article which Mo quoted and then make your mind up about him. YzK, Lynch, Conn, Memphis, these were all either top draw fighters or outweighed him by 2 and a half stone. Everyone would be going nuts if Pacquiao was to knock Ward out. But when a 98lb Wilde achievesa similar goal, it's not praised.

And Trancy Lee an unknown bum? And that completely neglects the fact Wilde had flu and was physically sick moments before the fight.

Wilde is the definition of a pound for pound fighter, someone who took on men much larger than himself to prove his greatness.

 

It's clear that your mind is made up on the matter, regardless of what anyone else posts. In turn, my mind is made up about the fact that someone who reigned over their division for a good five years and consistently defeated opponents who were much heavier than he was deserves to be considered a great fighter. If you want to scour boxrec records to find fighters that he could or should have faced, feel free. But, based on the information at hand, iand the film that is available, I feel comfortable in labeling Wilde as being someone who was a great fighter for his day and who possessed a number of attributes needed to be competitive during the present day.

If you feel otherwise, then so be it.

I not big on Jimmy wilde at all. I been around the fight game my whole life. I have a family member in the ibhof. I know more about boxing than you do thats the thing though. I hope your not over 25 cause you sound like a kid. You probably never even talked to a pro fighter you just look **** up on boxrec an dismiss people that fought in past eras. Boxers back in the day had no skill. They would be better off in todays era with strength gurus an steroid cycles.

Nostalgia makes people view things differently. The idea that Lennox Lewis was seen as an ATG at the time he retired makes me laugh because he wasn't. Most felt he hadn't done hardly anything and that losses (despite them being avenged) against Rahman and McCall.

10 years later, we view him as an ATG and some put him Top 5 P4P.

The truth is? Prime Lewis (all things fair and equal) loses to Prime Wlad if they're both at 100% during their performance and the fight isn't stopped due to injury. Anyone with a brain knows that and anyone with a brain also knows Holmes gets spanked by Lennox, Ali in his prime gets spanked by Lennox, etc.

I am not gonna lie but I dont know much about Jimmy Wilde. I tried to find some footage but obviously because he was fighting such a loooooooooong time ago it is understandable.

I am not sure how much I should give him credit for beating bigger guys but who were those guys you mentioned when Wilde did beat them?! Apparently they were legit Fighters back in the day. I dont know it is difficult to rank these fighters and especially when they are from so different times...

Anyways I dont understand why us boxing fans should downplay guys from the past...
