Check out this very impressive statistics about Cuban sports.

" It was reported that around 25% of the Cuban population regularly participated in sports but it could be higher. During the past 40 years, Cuba has emerged as a surprisingly competitive Nation in International sports such as Baseball, Boxing, weightlifting, skating, athletics, track and field, wrestling, men's and women's volleyball, table tennis, karate, taek won do and others ".

" Currently, there are in Cuba 494 Boxing Coaches and 185 facilities. Of the current 99,000 athletes in Cuba, 19,000 are boxers, 81 of Olympic level, even though only 12 boxers comprise the Olympic team ".

WOW, what would happen if these " 19,000 boxers " were allowed to go pro?

    Cuban invasion???

    :patsch

That's just what I thought, in my mind I thought maybe they had around 500 or so boxers. But these numbers also may represent the children learning to box ...

    Crazy indeed ...

That's just the " believe what everyone says " mentality. Did you know that over 95% of them win Gold below 21 years old? No one talks much about that, just the same thing back to back, "grown men beating little kids", that's talking without real knowledge!

They are stars since their teens but have no choice to stay as amateurs for their entire lives since there's no pro boxing in Cuba " officially ".

    ;)

but still. older more expereinced ams dont go pro and thus dont retire the amatuer game. so they keep on fighting against younger fighters and like alot of gyms pros and ams dont mix where as cuba keeps the vibe going. so the experience and grittyness/cageyness is not lost. so that is a bit of a phallecy that "most are 21" that isnt the point.

Lara, Rigo and Gamboa, all 3 high quality fighters. Fan of all three.

    Lara vs Canelo, Martinez, Molina
    Rigondeaux vs Donaire, Mares, Gonzales
Gamboa vs Garcia, Russel Jr. Broner

Those fights need to be made, so we can see what those three are all about.

And 18998 of them are glass-hearted nobodies.

The other 2 include Gamboa and some kid in the amateurs who will realize the risks and instability of a boxing career and end up working at some low-end insurance company for the rest of his life.

Lara is the best Cuban boxer for me right now, would of been Gamboa had he not run away from Rios
