[ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ndhjwSXTrz4[/ame], some good examples in this video from grandmaster william cheung. All the blocks and deflections in traditional wing chun controls the center and attacks the center hard when applied correctly.
That was not a very good demonstration. It was like the boxer was banned from throwing combos, while he waited for the Wing Chun guy to let his hands go.
I'm sick of these Kung Fu pretenders pandering their styles. I love Kung Fu, but these guys are frauds. Get in a ring and whoop a boxer, put it on youtube and get some real cred. Other than that stop posing and posturing, when I want to see Kung Fu on display Ill watch a Golden Harvest / Shaw Brothers film.
If he would of tried to throw a combination he would of gotten hit more. He was deflecting all of his punches and controling his centerline. It would of been impossible for him to throw a combo without getting countered. You don't what your talking about. I've been doing JKD for 2yrs. now and all of the blocks he was doing are not only in the original JKD but the more emphasis on interception and footwork because of the fencing that bruce lee put in. I've sparred with 2 boxers so far and didn't use my feet and was able to counter and nullify every punch they did and that's because it's basic punches boxers throw.(plus they turn their wrist, and by doing that, you take away energy of the velocity of the punch and you telegraph it more, opposed to throwing a straight punch which gets to the target quicker, it's simple physics. I would love for a boxer to try and throw a combination on me(and the guy who was doing the demo was not only a master but he was taking it light) because the minute he steps to throw ANY COMBINATION, he's getting hit with straight blast punches and he's gonna be getting rocked off balance from the hard blocks smakcing his wrist.
Okay... I'm not going to bother arguing with you. If you can kick ass with Wing Chun, more power to you. I like boxing.
William Cheung is a fraud. Look up some of the stuff he said. He claims to have known Bruce Lee and tells all these stories which haven't proven to be true.
For a Grandmaster his footwork looks pretty bad. Actual Wing Chun that I have practiced the footwork is in a sliding motion. Jose Grados form is much better. [ame]http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/William_Cheung[/ame] While I take back what I said about him being a fraud because I don't know him personally, the people who are saying that sparring match looks scripted are exactly right. It's more a performance for the camera, the footwork isn't good, the boxer is just standing there.
The Wing Chun Guy isn't ever in a postion to generate power. It's like a dance between a wasp and a tiger. The Wing Chun Guy has zero head movement and uses his offence as defence which leaves him plumb for powerful counters, he just comes forward with no lateral movement and follows the boxer round, easy for the boxer to draw onto somethng painful. One hard shot and Sifu William Cheung hits the deck. Shame the boxer can't kick the **** out of that frontleg or walk him onto a gut wrenching knee then a slamming elbow. :yep The pyjama brigade should keep it for the screen where it looks great.
Fareal imagine if a dude like tyson got of hold of him. Tyson would be having chinese booty for dinner.
His combos looked wing chun. Any reason why his stance was more angular like a boxer? The dub c I seen has their guys squaring up with their hands held farther apart from their face. The boxer looked nothing like a peak-a-boo. Why aren't there any successful dub c users in mma?
