You have to retire at some point. There will always be young guys coming through.

He got the big paydays and ran, not that he really had much more to prove. That version of Pavlik would have destroyed joe at that stage in his career, he got a flash kd from Bhopal and jones- pavlik (known as a hard puncher) would have koed joe. Just my opinion.

Why would he have fought Tarver. He fought B-Hop, who had just destroyed Tarver less than a year earlier.

Pavlik beat calzaghe, at any stage would not of happened!!!

Tarver was too lazy of a fighter to stay with calzaghe and his pace!

    Just my opinion!!

he was 37 years old and ranked p4p number 2 in the sport. he left with his unbeaten record in tact something very few do

though personally i thought he should've been the one to take Pavlik to school. History had other plans

Let me guess, Jeff Lacy, Bernard Hopkins and Roy Jones Jr are your favourite boxers? Shame Calzaghe beat them all.

Calzaghe just beat 2 guys who beat Tarver, one real easily and the other beat Pavlik.

I guess its hard for some fans to take that Calzaghe beat every top American SMW who would face him and the two American legends in Hopkins and Jones.
    Look at the list -

    Brewer
    Manfredo
    Sheika
    Pudwill
    Hopkins
    Lacy
    Mitchell
    Jones

All of those 7 were top 10 rated and then there were the non top 10 rated Americans

Point is, why should Calzaghe renew his visa, Tarver could travel to him, but either way Calzaghe beat the fighter that schooled Tarver

calzaghe couldnt wait for Pavlik and Dawson to get old, because he was older than them already. To be fair, I think he would have taken postdrugs Pavlik anyway, the guy was one trick. Dawson was the guy who Joe feared, and with good reason, CHad would have put his lights out for good.

And plus you HAVE to retire soon after 36, either that or fight oldies (shotto**** Roy Jones and 50% Hopkins) who you know you dont have a chance to outbox prime for prime but you can easily outwork hen they are old. Only Hopkins has been able to partly buck that trend even though he was only 50% of himself in his forties.

Is Larry Holmes over Mohammed Ali considered a good win ?

Or Canelo Alvarez over Shane Mosley a good win ?

I don't think anyone will agree with you !
