Nothing much happened in the first 1:45. Then they start to go at it and Pacquiao clearly gets the best in their exchanges. Cynics want to discount the punch stats entirely...okay. Has nothing to do with the punch stats. Pacquiao didn't do much in that round, but Bradley did even less.
I think they are! Those that push those punch buttons can be just as biased and dishonest as an official fight judge. Who employs the compubox crew? Thats right, HBO! Who wants to keep HBO happy in the hyping of thier cash cow? Bingo, compubox crew! The crew knows who pays the bills, and you can be damn sure they're more apt to trigger a punch they view as borderline as a landed punch on the fighter they know HBO is hyping. The last few Pacquiao fights are perfect examples of it. We all know Pacquiao did not outland Marquez, and in many rounds, the disparity the punchstats had in favor of Pacquiao over bradley was outright embarrassing! nut:nut In essence, the big names like Pacquiao and Mayweather keep the compubox team alfloat and with jobs. This is simply not true, and has been proven untrue with slo-mo analysis of several recent, major fights. (not that you need slo-mo to see it, just to prove it.) Often, they aren't even close. If you want to believe that this is just "honest error" by the 2 guys tapping on that laptop, then please don't ever vote, drive a car, operate large machinery, etc, as you are DANGEROUS.
They definitely are, and they help tow the HBO agenda. Why else would they credit Mayorga with 40 power shots through four rounds, when he hadn't landed half that ? Why else would they credit Calzaghe with landing 232 punches when he didn't land a fourth of the that? Why else would they credit Pacman with twice as many punches as he actually landed in round seven?
It's slightly interesting to look at CompuBox numbers but they have to be taken with a huge grain of salt. Total punchstats are for the most part worthless because fights are scored on a round by round basis but maybe this is more the fault of the networks use them as "proof" to build a case for a fighter to be the winner (or loser). Even if we assume that punchstats are accurate it's possible that one guy could outland the other in 7 rounds but still land less total punches. Second, as I alluded to, they are grossly inaccurate. Third, they don't tell you about the effectiveness of the punches when you also consider that anything landed other than a jab is considered a power punch.
Professional fighters are damn good and so quick, it really is difficult to count punches without the benefit of slow motion. Then you get the issue of what reallys is a punch. Do you count the punch that a boxer slips and it grazes his cheek, but clearly connects? For scoring purposes you shouldn't get much for that. The worst thing about compubox, though is it is done by two individuals. One individual may be more lenient on what is or isn't a punch and that screws the whole system up. I've seen fights where compubox had the fight 30 to 15 in favor of a fighter and it should have been 15-30. I figured the compubox guy forgot which fighter he was counting.
Really would you please go over round 7 with me. Because all I hear from the dourchebags is that reanalisis showed Compubox to be off in that round but so far I'm the only one I've seen that actually posted their own. I was being generous in my analysis. Consider the lower numbers as a more accurate representation of what actually landed. You're right though, it was about half of 27 that actually cleanly landed.
