good point, seems strange that so many posters de-value calzaghe's victory over roy jones

when analysing roy jones career, you must distinguish between

anabolic steroid riddled roy jones = fights from before and up to the richard hall fight

clean roy jones = fights taken place after the richard hall fight

firstly we must understand why a fighter takes banned anabolic steroids in the first place = a boxer takes banned anabolic steroids because they are scared to fight on a level playing field, they feel the need to cheat to gain an unfair advantage over their opponents because they are too cowardly to fight off a level playing field without manufactured advantages.

without a shadow of a doubt, there is only roys fanboys that believe the ripped fuel bull****, its very likely that all roys best victories came when juicing, roy refused to give the IBF the urine sample they requested after the hall fight and then manufactured the infamous andro excuse. Roy was caught juicing and it took him and his people 4 weeks to come up with the "Andro" excuse.

anything roy jones achieved before the richard hall fight has a huge cloud of suspicion hanging over it at the very least.

now look at the appalling level of fighters jones faced after being caught red handed for banned anabolic steroids in the hall fight

    - eric harding
    - derick harmon
    - gonzalez
    - glen kelly
    - clinton woods
    - john ruiz (handpicked heavyweight, slow, no power)

absolute bog standard level of opposition - even a clean jones could beat this standard of opposition

then jones gets slaughtered when he steps up his level of competition for the 1st time as a clean fighter versus tarver and johnson

after these defeats as a clean fighter, jones again fights low level opposition, just like before in his disgraceful 175 reign and surprise surprise . . . . . . he wins

    - ajamu
    - hanshaw
    - washed up trinidad

a clean roy jones then steps up his competition again v calzaghe and is systematically dismantled by joe calzaghe in one of the biggest one sided beatdowns ever witnessed on american soil

then jones goes back to his usual level of competition and the victorys roll on just like his appalling 175 reign

    - washed up lacy
    - sheika

if the performance that roy produced against lacy was from before he tested positive for banned anabolic steroids, roys fanboys would hold it aloft alongside his performances against the likes of the legendary dave talesco or 135lb bum vinny pazienza. the lacy performance was 'superman' at his very best.

so open your mind and ask yourself this - who has a CLEAN roy jones really ever beaten?

and for that matter who has a clean james toney ever beat?

ITS ALSO MASSIVELY IMPORTANT TO TAKE INTO ACCOUNT ALL THE DEFEATS AND DRAWS OF EACH BOXER.

for example, hopkins has gotten into the ring 9 times and not been good enough to emerge the victor, that is a hell of a lot of fights and clearly illustrates he has weakness.

jones and toney have also been whupped numerous times against fighters that calzaghe would toy with.

Didnt know Hopkins fought prime Jones. Thought Hopkins lost to green Jones having his first world title fight in a boring spectacle.
No im not swayed by HBO commentary, though in the case you are speaking of they did call it right as Hopkins flopped to the floor and wanted time out.
I dont know what HBOs scorecard was, but I do know the official ones :p

I agree that when McCallum was 36 in '94, McCallum was past it.

Jones against Hopkins was weight-tight and one-handed.
