Tubbs had training in TKD, Hung Gar Kung Fu, Bob Jones Karate, Kyokushin Karate and then he did some boxing, and as he rightly observed, it was ridiculous how much better boxing was than everything else he had dabbled in.

Was it boxing that took him over the edge?

My thoughts and experience's sound very much the same. The Hung Gar style I found the most interesting.

This is youtube footage of one of our 15 year olds fighting a wing chun black sash adult. Trained 8 months and had a six month break after this with hip injury at the second. Came back now sits at 3 wins 1 loss.

Wing Chun fella went on to have quite a few more Thai bouts and did pretty well.

Children of the same mother. :yep

One of the things we drill into our guys.

Thai culture oriented towards the feet. Insult equals striking or presenting the feet. Western culture oriented towards the upper body. Insult equals slapping or punching the face.

We try and drill that so our guys are good in and out of the ring and also adapt to the differences in judging we encounter.

I would appreciate if some of you guys watch JWP versus Yod 3 and tell me what you think.

I meant its the most proven hand art, as far as striking goes MT is also clearly a complete fighting art developed on a very tough battle field with finely tuned athletes. That is why it is no suprise that in MMA, MT is the go to art for overall striking.

The kicks use hip rotation which generates huge power. Of course you have people like Machida who can make karate work but by and large MT is the way to go for your average combatant. The elbows are practically using punching technique with the strike being delivered by the elbow.

MT, like boxing, is based on realistic and practical fight scenarios where it is incredibly difficult to hurt and/or finish another trained fighter and thus you need to maximise the efficiency and effectiveness of your defence and offence.

No, he was either always going to go there, or it was his drug usage.

Hey boranbkk, I should clarify that when I said "martial arts nobheads", I was referring to the traditional martial artists who claim their art is "too deadly" for the ring and all that shite. Obviously, Muay Thai and Kickboxing, and heck even Karate have proved their worth. I have upmost respect for those arts and any other like them. :good

Thanks for the clip, but it's kind of had to gleam too much as they're both novices, a close fight but for me the decsion was right. The MT fighter looked over all more soild, powerful and like he had a gameplan. The KF guy although agressive and more active just seemed awkward with out any real power, off balance alot and wide open.

You're an Ozzie! For some reason i thought you were form the States, sorry. Do you run an MT/Boxing gym or an MMA gym Pira?

The highlighted bit, that's a very good point and useful to get into guys heads so they can adapt and change dependancy on certain waepons in different locals. Particulalry if you're sending guys to fight in Thailand.

Always happy to watch Yod or JWP fight!:yep

I think it was a bit of a hometown decision. JWP made it close cos Yod never really turned it on but for me Yod overall was landing the better blows and with more venom and accuracy. JWP was really keyed up for this one and you can tell he gave it his all, but he looked a bit weak like there wasn'y much on his punches and kicks and he looked pretty tense. I notice Stan said that JWP was was walking round at 81kgs so maybe he was really struggling at the weight, drained and weak? I felt Yod never got too far up the gears. JWP was more active but Yod was more accurate and powerful. Even though I'm a JWP fan, Yod's a class above and I think JWP knows that. Anyway, I don't begrudge JWP anything! Happy retirement and thanks for the fights JWP! :hail

    Another good post. :good

Fair enough, I agree mate. :good

He did pretty well. It is a good comparison though as to the effectiveness of MT - a eight month novie kid beating a wing chung adult black sash.

I am at Powerplay gym in Melbourne, Australia.

I was the dissenting judge on JWP 3 who gave it to Yod by 2 rounds. Your right about the weight - I thought Yod won the kick war well and a lot of flurries were not the usual JWP calibre and precision. Still was a great fight and IMO Yod brings total focus when he fights JWP - does not underestimate him. Met Yod after the fight and and of course JWP who were swamped by fans and didn't go backstage until about half an hour after the fight. That was the fifth or sixth JWP fight I have judged.

Well judged. :good The other two must have been a bit starry eyed on the night, well done for keeping your eye on the ball. I don't think any Thai understimates JWP, he's very well known and they know how reltenless, strong and skilled he is. I think they're very wary that if they let their mind slip and make a sloppy mistake JWP will know how to expolit it in a way many foriegn fighters wouldn't, they know he fights like a Thai.:yep I agree with you about the flurries, they were kind of similar to when he fought that nasty French/N. African guy in the contender, another example of JWP grinding out a win when he wasn't realxed and on it.

Your gym Powerplay looks like good place to train. :thumbsup Funny cos I had you figured for an MMA guy, wrong again!

I get what your saying about the two young lads and I agree, months against years, that's MT.:yep
