I think that a 36 year old battle worn Chavez going 9 hard toe to toe rounds with a 26 year old DLH says a lot. I never saw a prime Chavez ever wobbled or knocked down. If he hadnt fought all those bums, his record would be like todays records 50 fights at most. Chavez was an old school fighter who fought many times in a year not just the usual 3-4 fights that todays fighters fight. If you look at all the old school fighters, they all had about 100+ fights when they retired.
JC Chavez record is a ****ing joke, if he didn't fight cab drivers every other day his record would have been something like 32-6. Man is a great fighter but so ****ing overrated.
I pay less attention to the 87-0 and more attention to the fact that he faced a who's who of the time from 130-140, and beat a whole slew of quality fighters. Most of the time in very convincing fashion. A great pressure fighter, economical and intelligent in his pressure, terrific ring-cutter, not easy to catch clean (and had a great chin when he was hit clean), and the ability to box and move when necessary. He spent like 90% of the Lockridge fight moving backwards or laterally, and won it much more clearly IMO than a lot of others say he did.
Which would have been amazing in itself since he had over 35 championship fights.:deal Fooking noobsatsch
