Would pick Tyson in this fight. They are both strong punchers but prime Mike Tyson defense and head movement was insane.
In the Foreman v Lyle fight, had the 4th round had lasted 20 seconds longer, we would not be having this discussion.
There are several key differences between Frazier and Tyson though. *Frazier was a slow starter, Tyson started quicker than maybe anyone. *Joe had poor defensive abilities, and had no survival instinct. He never once attempted to clinch Foreman and stood right in George's punching range all night. Tyson at the very least knew how to hold when hurt, and at his best was rarely caught by something big. Defensively, he is superior to Joe in every respect. *Frazier could not hurt Foreman at all. Tyson would not have that problem. (Frazier actually landed some nice hooks and a decent right, but George walked through the punches. I don't think anyone that was really hit by Tyson shrugged it off, and he dented some great chins.) *Tyson is a superior puncher in terms of selection, speed and punching power to Joe, and has a better chin. He punched with both hands equally well, unlike Joe. He is also a few pounds heavier and more explosive. These are all critical differences, imo. Personally, I don't see Frazier and Tyson sharing many qualities, aside from a come-forward style.
Lyle almost KO'd him doesn't matter. Almost does not matter. Tyson would not beat Ali and I do not overate the 70's. Every boxing writer and critic consider the 70's to be one of the best or the best outright. Stop being a close minded Tyson fanboy. Tyson was KO'd by Buster Douglas man. Tyson has nothing to beat Foreman with at all. [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=v2uWyvVaZuI[/ame]
Yeah and it's isn't as if Tyson was beaten by a club fighter in his prime...except for that one time... [ame]http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Exrpoc6GP60[/ame]
Exactly. And that version of Lyle most likely gets the utter living **** beaten out of him by Tyson within 3 rounds.
to add to this, in peoples opinion, did we ever see the complete Mike Tyson or did Cus die too soon? dont patronise too much new to this.
Typical Tyson fans...you'd think "that version" of Douglas had 8 ****ing arms and hit like the bloody terminator . Don't get me wrong, Douglas had a career best performance but lets not oversell him ffs, the same goes for all this "Tyson didn't train for him" stuff. You can give Mike a bit of leeway for many of post-prison defeats but he was bested by a very game but overall very mediocre fighter in Buster Douglas.
Oh please. Guy is getting shitted on and called a 'club fighter' to make Tyson look worse. Tyson didn't make title defenses against club fighters. Douglas was a world-rated contender with great physical attributes, good boxing skills and an inconsistent work ethic. Douglas hadn't lost a fight going back to 1987 against an undefeated Tony Tucker and had strung together six consecutive wins heading into Tokyo.
