Although, I don't think the risk is high enough to merit a duck from Canelo, it seems his handlers aren't going to put him in the ring with Lara. So if this fight isn't going to happen, and Lara wants to prove that he's the best, and most avoided fighter at 154, he should have no problem fighting K9. Honestly, I don't see the same things about Lara that his nuthuggers in this forum do. I've seen some ridiculous statements about assets they think Lara possesess that makes him so formidable. He does have a good punching style, and he's accurate, but his footwork is lacking, and he showed mental weakness against a very average Hernandez. He appeared to be resorting to illegal tactics, intentionally leading with his head, perhaps because Hernandez gave him a more difficult night than he anticipated. Maybe Lara was having an off night, but this isn't the first time I've seen him look this way. Lara's stands in one place for too long. He does not hit hard enough to have this luxury, nor is his defense good enough to permit his opponent from getting shots in. He'll put those "earmuffs" up, but Hernandez managed to get several shots through, and Hernadez is a C level fighter at best, as he lacks power, speed, footwork, and a lot of other intagibles that make's for a good fighter. K9 beat the **** outta Spinks who is past his prime, but still moves around at least as good as Lara, and while he probably doesn't punch as hard, still has decent accuracy. Don't get twisted K9 is hittable, and Lara could very well get him out of there early, but it doesn't seem like he has this capability, nor does he have the most consistant body attack to wear this guy down. K9 will likely live up to his nickname and be a pitbull against Lara, and his strength, aggressiveness, and unorthodox punching will cause signficant problems for Lara who will stand in one place so long. If K9 gets past the first few rounds, this will be a war of attrition. Lara will really have to step up and show he's as good as people on this forum say he is to win impressively against K9. Honestly, I think it will be a long night for him, and while I slightly favor him, it would not suprise me if K9 manages to get him. The problem is, K9 would likely have to win this fight by KO, and I'm not sure how much punishment Lara can take, but in this fight he will get hit. His defensive lapses against Hernandez will cost him against the dog.
After 3 rds k9 was open mouth breathing, he was taking shots from featherfisted spinks and moves slower than a tractor pulling a house. The guy is a warrior with lot of heart and raw power, but he's the weakest link at 154 and that makes him Canelo's possible choice.
Canelo has better footwork than Lara. Canelo will move around the ring, and establish a body attack. Canelo also appears to be a harder puncher than Lara which will serve as a deterant. Styles make fights, and I think Lara is a more difficult fight for Canelo, but I would still favor Canelo against Lara at this point. But I don't think Canelo is going to fight Lara, so Lara might as well fight K9 who had an impressive win on Saturday. And for a guy that has his mouth open and was breathing heavy, it didn't stop him from relentlessly pursuing Spinks until he got the KO. That didn't look like an old and out of breath fighter to me.
So, you're saying Lara would establish a signficant body attack or that K9 doesn't have a chin and Lara punches too hard?
Lara landed 64% of his power shots, lara isn't weak like spinks and lara wouldn't fight k9 the way he did hernandez,he would be more aggressive, because he's got something to prove and he knows k9 can't fight going backwards.
I've seen K9 vs Lara and Alvarez options today. Both will end within 6 rounds, and neither will end well for K9.
I just don't see ANYTHING in K9's game that can effect Lara. Sure he has RAW power, But without the skillset to apply it Vs. a "Lara" he will gas out trying to throw bombs, IMO. Can he land a shot & hurt Lara & KHTFO Yes/maybe?? Will he... With Lara's experience I'd lean towards no. (but K9's only chance is a KO)
If this is the case, this is the perfect fight for Lara. He scores an big KO and all of a sudden Lara is making headlines and people start tuning in. Lara will land against K9, but K9 will maul him, smother him, and force him to fight. Lara doesn't have good enough footwork for him not to end up in a fight at times. I think that the strategy you suggest he uses is the wrong one though. I would box this guy, and use footwork, but that's a part of Lara's game that's lacking. If he goes to war, we'll see how mentally strong Lara is because K9 has nothing to lose. He's an old man, even if he doesn't fight like one.
What K9 can do when he gets tired is use his strength to make this a rough fight and push Lara around, smother his shots. This combined with the fact that Lara isn't a great body puncher anyway, means that the likelihood of K9 fading is less than people seem to be presuming. Sure he might fade, but Lara has to do something to provoke this. If K9 is landing, even if it's on Lara's earmuffs, shots are going to get through, and this is going to build K9's confidence. We know K9 isn't afraid to get hit, and is not afraid to get in a war. Lara showed some weakness on Saturday. He started using illegal tactics which suggests in my mind that maybe he isn't that strong mentally. K9 would test him in this regard. Like I said, Lara scores a big KO, that boosts his popularity and his bargaining power. He would be much harder to duck. I don't see any reason WHY Lara wouldn't take this fight if he's as confident as his fans are that he would wipe K9 out.
I think lara's right hooks to the body were slowing down hernandez, plus he has great foot placement and he's always in range to land, that's why he has great accuracy.
mismatch. lara would box him into another dimension. good resume building fight for lara though seeing as he cant get a big name fight.
But you got to understand that Molina for instance made it difficult because he smothered Lara's punches. K9 will do the same thing, but unlike Molina, he won't just hold on like a homosexual. He'll actually punch. This is a good fight. No matter how it ends, this is a good fight. If Lara is as confident as you are that he would win, I would sign this fight tomorrow. You can't tell me you wouldn't be hyped for this... It would be a hell of a lot better than Molina. The only other fights that would make more sense are Cotto or Canelo, and I don't see those fights happening...at least not soon.
Yea i would be,because i think it will bring out the beast in lara,i think lara as well as many others underestimated molina, but i think it was a good learning experience.I think lara schools molina second fight.
True... Lara's inside game is lacking from what we have seen thus far, K9's strength could be a "Key" in the smother clinch aspect... I'll give Bundrage this tho "IF" Lara was to allow K9 to hold K9 is relentless while in the inside clinch position, Lara will be forced to use his outside game without give. (testing Lara's condition)
